i did like a 3-4 inch layer of straw in a 45 qt rubbermaid tote, and did each spawning layer every 1 inch and used 1 pint of rye grass seed how long u think this will take to colonize i dont want to keep looking in there

Give it a week and see where it's at.

right now its at 1/2 week but i have them in a ice chest some one told me not to put any heat in there i mean its colonizing but looks slow u think i should leave it alone or i should put a fish tank heater in a tote with water and a lid to speed it up a lil

i say make sure the temp around the tote is at least 80 and dont look at it for another week. if you dont have any colonization by then, you might have something to worry about.

you don't really want to incubate a large rubbermaid of straw. leave it at room temp cause biological heating will make your substrate too hot if you incubate.

If it's covered with holes it should be fine. 80 degrees is fine for 3"-4". Really, it's either going to grow fine or dry out or contaminate. The speed really has to do with how much spawn you used and how well you mixed it.

its covers with tin foil no holes but i doubt its over 80 degrees in there. when i spawnd i read some wher that using grain if u mix it will all fall to the bottom so i did a soild layer of ryegrass seed that was colonized fully between each inch of the casing i checked on them today and there coming along great cant wait to get some pics to all you that helped
