 Looking to hunt on vacation to Indiana

I already googled so don't get pissed. I got conflicting information.
I will be traveling through indiana during the spring and was interested to know what might be growing and possible locations to look at.
I have never hunted in the wild before so any expanded info you think I should know would help.

it looks like the most reasonable target would be
Panaeolus subbalteatus
So I guess I need to determine what sort of area these like.

Panaeolus cinctulus grows near horse manure and sodded or fertilized lawns.

That might work although they seem to be more commonly found near horses.

The rest of the species on that list are typically found on well rotted wood. However as indicated they are significantly rarer.
Your best bet is to find p. cincts searching horse fields.

especially in the spring. doubt you'll have much luck but don't let that stop you. Just don't *expect* to find anything and you just might.
but not gyms.
do some diligent research on this forum. read what other people have posted in the spring to get an idea of what you might find.
pay attention to where they found em. try to replicate it.

I've had complete Sucsess in Indiana,
growing in clusters, ,jetblack spore print, on old manure horse/cow. Pan Cinctulus
They'll look like this; 
Orange mushroom the size of your head/fuckinghuge growing off a dead Stump/log. BigLaughingGym
I think this is an great beginner state for hunting mushrooms.

It would be the pan Subs I guess
I found them when humidity is up 90+
And when it got no colder than 50degrees at nite,, around 80defrees plus during the day.
And after a rain.
If it's spring or not it don't matter,,, they need the proper conditions.

I'm surprised that no one has mentioned it yet, but I've found Psilocybe ovoideocystidiata in Indiana, as long as 7 years ago, & then in greater abundance again about 4 years ago. I don't come around here very often, so I'm out of touch with what y'all know as the range... They usually peak around early to mid may in southern to central IN, depending on the weather.
Also, morels are common, and commonly hunted, throughout that state. Great early season oysters, Flammulina velutipes and a few other edibles in the spring, depending on when you're talking.

You are the first person to report it, though I have long suspected that they grow in central to southern Indiana since it is just about the same habitat as Ohio where they are found.

We are getting the perfect weather for mushrooms right now in Indiana. I have never hunted my own cubensis before, but I do hunt for morels, chicken of the woods, and oysters.
I live in Central Indiana and have good luck, but I enjoy traveling to Southern Indiana as well.
