possible contamination i would love some input
    #21331026 - 02/25/15 11:16 PM (9 years, 10 months ago)

I got home a little bit ago and noticed this. as you see below there is a yellow hue to the mycelium. could it just be the moisture in the jars making it look that color?

first I have ever seen of this in all my experiences in mycology. I also noticed that my mycelium is giving off a shit ton of moisture. to where a noticeable amount of water is sitting on the colonizing mycelium. the substrate was brought up to field capacity . I used rye flour with vermiculite. all my other jars are doing fine. I noticed some jars when they first started out the mycelium looked a little gray at the inoculation points. I figured it was just because the color of the substrate behind it. and haven't seen it since. but I got home and examined them and also found this on another jar

all the jars that I saw that grey tint in have eventually turned white and thick like the other mycelium. also they all started away and separate from the mycelium . could this just be a late spore starting its thing. idk that's why I turn to yall. thanks guys .

You've got some pretty bad bacteria going on there. Second pics are probably just myc recovering. Usually bacterial jars are still fruitable and a lot of people just top fruit them, but that one is pretty nasty.

normally ur common household bacteria is not that big a prob (atleast for me) but dude yea...what flabber said. Thats some nasty bacteria u got there man. if u got 11 more (that are healthy) id say g2g the rest man. 1 jar to 10 means 11 jars becomes 110...which means alot of spawn (which is good :stoned:)

If not then do whatever you originally intended...

Whatever u do, good vibes & good luck :fasted:

I planned on spawning to bulk and also doing g2g. I think im done with brf cakes and switch to grain . its really sad that it got a contamination because that was my best jar . started out the slowest but exploded with mycelium. it was the champ out of the bunch but live to fast and crash hard. RIP buddy

they look a little stressed, possibly from fighting off a slight contamination, but i think they will pull through!
also you water ratio looks a little high. good luck!:mushroomtwirl:

You used quart jars for BRF?  What lids did you use? I would shake them if you used filters on your lids and no dry verm layer. They will never reach 100%, especially healthy, the way they are now. Still might not, as the moisture is drawn to the bottom of the larger jars and stalls the myc from growing there.
