This song was virtually unknown outside of Detroit until Drake typed a couple of it's lines on his Twitter:
This song was virtually unknown until Drake took the original song, added his own verse to it, and then sent it back to him:
That's what I mean.
Obviously if Drake is listening to alternative rap, that has to influence what he does too somehow.

Yukon Cornelius said: Even look at Flying Lotus, he's been making shit since 07 for adult swim and now he has Kendrick Lamar on his latest single and millions of youtube views.
I think a Kendrick and FlyLo collab was unavoidable. I remember hearing an interview where he talked about how Kendrick and Thundercat were making some stuff together, and he'd feel a little envious because he wanted in on it, too.
But it's not like that was his only song on YouTube that was viewed by millions. Mmhmm, Massage Situation, and Fall in Love cracked the millions, too. And he had already worked with Badu and did a lot of stuff with GTA 5, but I guess it wasn't propelling enough.
I mean, yeah, in order for FlyLo to make the leaps he wants to, he has to have a wider audience, and Kendrick was a good way to get his foot in the door. He's in that weird area of being known by too many people to be totally underground but not known by enough people to be considered mainstream.
I don't expect to see tracks without features on the radio anytime soon, though, because his style is still too outside of the box to fit in what what's typically played. But I think he was able to put himself on the radars of a lot of people who otherwise wouldn't fuck with him, and I'm happy about that.

Hip-hop is nursery rhymes.

That video for the flylo + Lamar song was real good, but I didn't like the song. I never saw a Kendrick Lamar video that wasn't about Christianity and/or church. I like secular raps. Flylo has fallen the fuck off these days. I wish he'd just stop.

I don't want him to stop, just switch gears.
He's been doing some live covers with a backing ensemble for his stuff from cosmogramma, so at least that shows he still has some creative momentum.
If he dove into the electronic jam scene it would be a spectacular transition.

You might be right. Dude is insanely talented, it'd be a shame for him to just stop making music. I just can't help but compare his newer stuff to the flylo work I loved and be disappointed.

That disappointment is almost unavoidable, it's the same thing I feel torwards pink floyd's discography.
His popularity is definitely impacting his music, I'd hope he'd want to be an icon instead of a star but we'll see what the future holds.
Also his Coronus the Terminator video was excellent.
My hope lies in his brainfeeder label, quite the collection of progressive producers, most notably Daedelus

Eh, I may not be as into his newer stuff as I was into his chilled out , more hip hop-oriented stuff, but that's growth for you. He's growing. And I guess this progressive jazz direction he's taken his most recent music into was expected, what with his relation to Coltrane and everything, lol.
I'm eager to see what he does. He just keeps breaking past walls and it's exciting.

Black Eyed Peas had 42 million sales for downloaded tracks in 2011, the second highest of all time. They must be doing something right.

Then they are talented manipulators. I don't think anything anyone on this site combined has done anything that could match that.
