"far more slimy and sticky"
The water content was less.
Last time i made a brew it was yellow and thick. Very hard to get down.

Many things could cause the color to be more brown. If the syrup was made thicker this time it would tend more towards a dark brown. Also as the syrup thickens it becomes more prone to scorching which would also cause a browning in color.

Is he starting with fresh cacti? If so, then you should not try to start an extraction with fresh material. The mescaline content rises after the cactus is cut into discs for drying. The Andeans cut the cactus up into 1 inch discs. Those are left to dry in a cool dark place for a month or so. During that month the alkaloids increase and pre cursors are changed into mescaline. Try this and see if it doesn't change the end product. later.

I noticed that you have posted this info about mescaline increasing while the cactus is being dried. I would really like to read more about that. Could you tell me your resources for that info.

I only know that is how the Andeans prepare San Pedro. I don't have the link stored because of those damn viruses that swept through a few months ago. All I know is that I read the Andeans prepare San pedro by cutting the columns into discs. They say the reason is for the Cactus to "Cure". We all know what Curing does to plants. Like curing reefer to help the post cursors CBD to convert to THC also to let the THC/CBD acids break down and make them psychoactive. I can't find the other stuff that was more Scientific. But it also stated the reasons why were because of mescaline pre cursors would change into mescaline during a proper curing and drying process. Proper meaning slow, cool and dark. I guess look it up. Via con Dios Later.

interesting post! I would like to know if it's true that drying increases potency because I'm going to make tea from my pedro's in about a month or so... so if it's true I need to cut them into pieces asap

it seems taht the drying serves to preserve the alkaloids, not to potentiate them, as they are unstable, fragile, sensitive to light and to moisture. drying the cacti would protect them from many of these conditions wich would lead to breakdown over time, but i'd like to learn more on your point. if you are right, this is likely to be helpful for many people.

Before I get thrown out to the dogs, I would like to state I have no Scientific proof that they increase. I only said the Andeans dry it for a Curing process. I made assumptions otherwise. I am not a chemist. But, good luck to anyone that want's to research if the drying process increases or just stabilizes the alkaloids. Later.
