Stalled casing - back to life
    #21329511 - 02/25/15 05:40 PM (9 years, 10 months ago)

Just wanted to share what happened with a recent stalled casing.

Monotub with:
6 jars of Golden Teacher / 6 jars of Costa Rican,
cased together with 4cups verm/4cups peat moss under crumbled cakes, then 5cups/verm & 5/cups peat moss on top.

(I usually do 6 jars per tub, with 4c/4c above and 4c/4c below for casing, with success.  Probably went a little overboard on this one)

I waited for 2 months with no sign of colonization during the incubating period, (treating it the same as my other monotubs which are usually ready to induce fruiting in 2-3 weeks)

Anyways, I thought it was a lost tub after the 2 months, but something told me the moisture may have been too high and caused it not to colonize at all.

So I treated it like a ready-to-induce-fruiting tub and took off the plastic and tape, added the poly-fill and gave it some light and breathing room.  I believe this let some of the humidity evaporate, and I saw signs of mycelium growth within a week.  It fully colonized and 3 months after casing, a decent 1st flush from an almost-lost tub.
They came out oddly thin and very very long with small heads, but its better than nothing

Just wanted to share, if your incubating tub shows no sign of life, change it up and let it breath!
