The only reason contams are such an issue is that we are growing them in an environment that favors the contam. In its nich cubes are a force.

QFT

That should go in a sig or something :lmafo:

I read an old paper a month back on the order of germination of dung loving fungi and it seems that most of the advantages come from early germination and that they can break down more complex nutrients.  Bacteria and protozoa usually go for the simple sugars and few molds can withstand the digestive process. So in the case of cubes they germinate early, quicky colonize the hard to break down nutes and once expelled already have a good grip on the substrate.

The paper references the older info stating that order of reproduction was the same as germination but was disproven given the extra time and greater colony size needed by the higher fungi to fruit. The research seemed to conclude that not only did germination take place in the gut, but that some of the colonization would need to also. It was a great read I will try and dig it back up.

Anyway for the purpose of this conversation, I like to think of contam resistance as in a fully colonized substrate is contam resistant. Like primal said they all are. Poor colonizers are susceptible to contams only because they are unable to take a substrate before the competition can.

Is there any observable difference between South American and Brazil strains? I inoculated some grain, an LC, and an grow bag with a syringe of these each and I forgot which was which.

Not really. Both are classic cubes. Both are from south America. Neither carry reccessive or otherwise distingishing traits.

It certainly doesn't.  All cubes have great potential.  Good luck with your grow

I've been searching for information on pink Buffalo. I just can't find a website saying the average height is. If anyone knows please tell me.

Even if you found it would venture to say it doesn't matter. Genetics determine things like height, not really strain. If redboyis a regular cube then they can be small or big.

Alright, I see now why people clone the best looking one.

Example: if I cloned a big mushroom and used it for a new grow. The mushies would be big like the ones I cloned.

This right?

Mostly.  But you want to clone a big one from a cluster, or else you might grow out a whole tub that only produces one mushroom each flush.

So I must assume they're great at germinating and growing in 100F+ temperatures. I could see the germination part maybe but the gut temperatures in grazing animals like that are pretty high. In a cow it can be as high 108F which would kill any Cubensis mycelium growing. Maybe some other species could survive that.

The high end temperature in the rumen is 40C (104F) and would be considered elevated at that point. 108F would be indicative of illness. The rumen is the first compartment and the higher temps are from the fermentation process. Germination would most likely not occur there. Regardless I do not think that the myc would do much colonizing in the other compartments either, that would most likely occur in the intestines where the temps would be lower.

Tho it is true that the paper in question was old, and most likely not concerned with cubes. But I  believe I already provided that caveat.

I do recall reading about certain fungi doing that. I've just found it impossible verify anything about any mushroom species germinating in the body of an animal. It's also a very low oxygen environment which I'm sure wouldn't help much either. But we're all heard the anecdotes about it so you have to wonder.

I think that its less of a case of the cow pooping out fully colonized turds and more of an initial foothold that has been established. Also even tho the environment is more anaerobic, the amount of water present is still fairly high. That could provide enough O2 for colonization.

Do you know if horse stomachs are any different pasty? I have access to some horses, and I kind of wanted to put either Panaeolus spores or LC in their water if there was a chance it would work.
