Are these knots?

First, thanks for all the help so far with my first run at this! I just have a question on what these are exactly. The first pic, are these knots?
The second pic, I saw this growth a few days ago and it's just a big blue bump, is this also a knot but different looking?

Thanks!

The top picture definitely looks like knots.
The bottom picture almost looks like an abort.
I have limited experience, so wait and see what others think lol

Thanks, I appreciate the response. I'm hoping they are because I'm on day 10 and haven't seen any progress in terms of pinning other than that little blue bump.

No, those aren't knots. Those are pieces of perlite that got stuck onto the cake when it fell over.

I suspected they may be but I don't remember it ever falling over. I'm just afraid of checking and breaking them if they are.

It won't hurt anything to leave them, and you might get pins forming under them because you don't have a whole lot of vermiculite on the sides there.

Hyphal knots are like smooth bumps. You'll keep guessing what they look like until you actually see one, Then you'll know

Thanks Achillita, I think I'm just too eager and looking at every little detail in there.

They are most likely blobs. Blobs are like stems with no caps that often appear right before pins when the cakes were birthed to early. They are psychoactive. Pick them when they stop growing in size. If the are In fact blobs your pins will be along very shortly.

Thinking outside the box... I missed that at first glance until you pointed it out...Good call.
I would take a sterlized object and see if one falls off...but thats just me ....but If it is perlite I wouldnt bother...unless I was curious.

The verm looks light in color and I see some bruising. The bruising may be from handling, but the pattern suggest it's from drying out.

Thanks guys, they do feel kind of light...put them in a saucer of water where their is pinning? Or should I submerge them completely in water for a few hours? Would that not hurt the pins? If there is any link to instructions I could follow that would be great.

just have them touching some water, dont dunk them again. for the ones with pins you can set the on the round side to keep them out of the water

Just so I understand correctly, just lay them on their sides in a small plate for example with a little bit of water for a few hours?

Yes they'll absorb the water slowly, and yes, a plate not a bowl.
