Germination
    #21322131 - 02/24/15 10:39 AM (9 years, 10 months ago)

its been roughly a week since I inoculated my jars. I've been using a small heater to have a little air flow and a little heat to me jars, not a lot tho. It seems like they aren't colonizing as fast as they should. Can anyone help? These are my four most promising jars at this point.

Jars take time. You're good, gotta be pacient in this hobby. Don't use the heater, it's based on outdated tek. Room temperature should be fine.

some people need a heater this time of year to reach room temperature.
The main point is heat the area not the jars themselves.

Did you inoculate with ms? Also adding heat and airflow is unnecessary and could just make things more problematic. They seam good for only a week though

I was wondering if you look on the far right jar it seems like there is something black there, should I continue to let it go and see what happens?

I noticed you didn't cover your inoculation holes bro. that's very bad considering its opened to air . most likely that black spot is mold. even if you have a suspension put it in isolation and monitor it. it could contaminate your whole batch.put some tape over those holes asap. and my jars look as though nothing will happen at week 1 but by the end of week 3 they were 70% done. whole pint jars at that. also I use a heater as well to bring the temp up to 78. you have to think of your jars as an insulator and mycelium gives off heat.with the tape over the holes and a temp of 78 your looking at an internal temperature of 83 my man.. hey my 2 cents. good luck bro

An undisturBed dry verm layer can prevent nasties. You don't have to tape, just don't move them a lot. 83f is pretty warm for jars too. room temp will work fine.
