Minimum PC time

I currently do 6 4qt bags at a time in my 22qt at 3 1/2 hours and if possible I would like to shorten my cycle but I don't wanna test 3 hours with 6 bags cause that's a lot to throw away.
Can anyone drop some wisdom or comparison on me?

Really think 120 will cut it? They're packed in there. Not just stuffed but its a relatively tight fit. 3 on top 3 on bottom.

Nah, 120 isn't going to cut it if they are "crammed" into the sterilization vessel.
3 hours is how long I do my 4 quart bags for at 17-20 psi's. What psi's are you running at? Also, is that a Presto you are running, and what is the maximum psi you can get out of that thing??
The best way to be able to shorten your sterilization duration is to sterilize at higher psi's, but I don't fuck around, so I sterilize for long time increments at high psi's.

Im watching this cause Im switching to bags now. I only have presto to run at the moment, I tape a couple quarters on the weight. I dunno if I trust the gauge that much

Hell, I'd do a four hour sterilization cycle if I was confined to only 15 psi's, but that's just me. Good luck to you sir. Have a good one.

I trust my gauge since it correlates with what I know my weight should do I'm just weary of adding to it to achieve 17psi. Its an older PC and secondhand .
Nah I have no bacteria issues at 3 1/2.

Indeed. Have you seen this thread going over the various autoclave times of various sized substrates? http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/20813166#20813166

I have but it was nice to review! I have to check the size of my bags when they get here later but I think for my purposes 4 to 5 qts will do nicely for each bag
With the presto I had a problem with the bags melting from coming into contact with the lower sides of the PC, any sugguestions?

put 100% cotton in between the bag and metal if it melts. It really shouldn't unless you don't have enough water.

If youre using a gas stove buy a diffuser thingy or turn the initial heat down a bit. They melt from heat riding up the side of the PC.

I just watched RRs video on this. I see what I did wrong now haha.
I never watched that segment because I only grow actives I never really use sawdust, didnt realize he packs the PC in that video.
So after it cools would it be best just to take the whole PC up to my room with the FH? Does this ruin the tyvek sleeves or are they still useAble after
Wow. Im really glad I watched that. Ha

I have to say I disagree with a couple of the statements in that link, never seen anyone have a problem with agar for 20mins @ 15 psi but I've seen a LOT of troubles with grain qt jars for 60mins @ 15 psi!
the bag times seems a bit overkill as well, as OP says here 3,5hrs never let him down. I wouldn't skip on PC times with grains tho, and that's what I have the most problem with in the link, 60mins is risky business!
