How to check if a pressure cooker works?
    #21320232 - 02/23/15 10:06 PM (9 years, 10 months ago)

Hey guys so my pressure cooker is missing a rocker but if I put it at a certain heat, it seems to be working. So how would I be able to check this guys? I know the chance of it working is super low. But my suspicions man. So how would I check if it pressure cooks? XD

If it needs a rocker it's not going to get to pressure without one (safely).

Well there is a little black rubber thing that says 10 psi and goes up when on full heat XD. Is there any quick and easy way to see if it works just for the hell of it?

If it's missing one of the rings then it's probably just set at 10psi. PC for at least 120 minutes instead of 90.

And to test if it's actually working throw some food in there. I made a roast in under an hour.

For your SAFTEY...please follow your manufactures instructions, as you didnt say what model you have. You can find just about everything you need to know online if you have manufacturer and model number...

Sounds like your missing a part(rocker), and the thing that pops up is some kind of pressure indicator...maybe the other posters know or have a similiar one, but without any other info or pics its hard to help...I would just not throw heat at it to make it work without knowing how it should work...PC can be dangereous, just like anything...but Explosions and Burns can hurt...but YMMV

If there is no rocker I heard it just lets steam flow out, so give it a try all it does it control psi in the pc.

That's the "pressure gauge".  10 psi's is not an acceptable psi amount for the proper sterilization of mushroom substrates.  15 psi's the standard average minimum.  A 10 psi limit will cause for your substrates to require a much longer sterilization-cycle.

To test you sterilization device, just fill it with enough water to run a sterilization cycle.  Test for psi's gained, and time it takes to get to get to the maximum psi's allotted dictated by your sterilization vessel.  Stuff the PC full of autoclaveable materials to better simulate grain substrate sterilization.

I'd rather spend the few extra hundred dollars and get an AA, electric X 25 steroclave, so that's what I did 4 years ago, and got 2 if we are talking personal preference here.
