Monotub Size
    #21319868 - 02/23/15 08:51 PM (9 years, 10 months ago)

SWIM has worked with monotubs for a few rounds and found them to be a very good way to go about this hobby of mushroom growing. So he upscaled the size of his totes. He'd been using small 1x2 totes and went to 2x5 totes.

It seemed to take longer to colonize the cased monotub, and when SWIM went to expose to FAE, 80% of them had become infected with trich (he knows--he should have been watching them closer, but he'd never seen trich at this stage before). SWIM was VERY sad when he made this discovery. SWIM has had 100% success with those smaller monotubs and is wondering if it's the size of the tub that caused the problem.

He thinks that the larger tubs have more air for bacteria to float around in and possibly take longer, so those two variables might cause contamination to occur at a higher rate.

Can anyone confirm SWIM's theory or provide any further insights?

What's a 2x5 tote? More than likely your spawn was contamed or your sub wasn't properly prepped.

It was either contaminated spawn, improperly prepared substrate, or low spawn:sub ratio.

1:2 is pretty standard. Some do a bit less or more...
