Coffee water coir hydration?

Any opinions on hydrating coir with coffee water for a nitrogen boost? I know coffee contaminates more readily then we would like but what is to be said for coffee liquid?
Would it need to be pasteurized as well or can I simply use it at sterilization temps?

I think I know the answer but is there anything with a high N level that I can get away with sterilizing?

Not if you plan to spawn in open air.

Or........use coir sterilized/bucketed and save yourself some time and at least in my case a lot of mess.
I didn't know if diluted enough coffee liquid would still harbor enough nutes and acidity to boast contams.
Well that sucks. Maybe I'll hydrate my next coir with liquid nitrogen and kill 2 birds with one stone.

TBH I always have used grain soak water and coffee to hydrate coir and then sterilized the coir and spawned open air just fine. Not saying it's a great idea but it's always worked for me

Damn! What was your spawn ratio? Must have colonized real quick.
I've always found it easier to just add leached coffee grinds to the mix, rather than adding coffee water. You don't want to be using up all your wife's drugs, she needs them to function. Go to starbucks and say, "I was looking for some leached/spent coffee grinds for my garden, do you have any?" The lady/gentlemen behind the counter will present you with a trashbag full of spent coffee grinds and say, "she's all yours!".
You gotta love free substrate materials:
Hpoo - Free. Call local horse boarding operations, never fails. Coffee - Free. Show up at any of the 10 starbucks in your town.

You must use really high spawn ratios. I can't even leave a cup of coffee sitting out for two days without it growing mold

It may have something to do with the fact that there's only coir to germinate on even if it is soaked with coffee?

Hmmm, assuming you are spawning live mycelium to the coir/coffee there would be no more germinating at this point. There would be inoculating and colonizing. This is known as spawning, or spawn running.
The coffee raises the nitrogen content and lowers the pH of the substrate and is therefore more prone to contamination. I think you just had an aggressive strain and used a lot of spawn.

I didn't do this yet bodhista did.
Also I'm referring to germination of competitor species/mold.

Mold spores can germinate on liquid coffee. Leave a cup on yer counter for 4 days and you will see.

Coffee grinds can work well since most of the water soluble nutrients have been removed but liquid coffee is the opposite of what you want in a nonsterile bulk substrate. You can soak your grains in it when you make your spawn though.
