Those are hyphal knots. They are showing up before the substrate is even fully colonized.
I am not 100% sure about this diagnosis, but it seems like I have read a bunch of time that if knots or fruits show up before full colonization of the substrate is a symptom of contamination. Apparently the culture will detect the contamination and begin to fruit as an evolutionary reaction to the contamination in order to successfully propagate it's self.
Makes sense to me, but I'd still wait for somebody else to chime in on this one. Good luck!

Throw it, sorry! If it's pinning before it is 100% colonized it is contamned. Out it goes

I wouldn't throw it out just yet.
Besides, if it's a bacteria you should be able to pull a flush.
I've had mono's that appeared to have bacteria yet they fruited just fine.
Now trich is a different story, if you see green toss it for sure. After you've seen trich a couple times, you will even be able to tell before it sporulates.
Unfortunately that shit is now unmistakable to me...

Got a SAB or flowhood, and following proper sterile procedures/techniques?
Maybe time to de-contam your grow room or where ever you keep your jars

I personally would not throw it out.
Keep it and monitor it, if they start to turn into pins and there does not seem to be any mold then perhaps birth it, wash away any uncolonized parts and then dunk and roll the cakes.
You should be able to get a flush or two out of it if it is bacteria. Did you perhaps open the jars at all or is there maybe a bit too much air exchange? I think that might be a trigger for pinning as well and could be causing some problems.

You are correct, PsyClown89. That's a point I forgot. Thanks for pointing that out. Good call. That has me curious as to what OP is doing/using as gas exchange filtering material.

I do not have a sab or flow hood.
I have a rather big closet that I use to inoculate with the walls, ceiling, and floor covered in industrial plastic which is sprayed with clorox disinfectant. I flame sterilize in between jars. Wear a face mask and rubber gloves.
I just have normal dry verm on top and normal sized inoc holes almost too small I use 16g needles and it just fits in.
And too bad I already tossed them.
Here are some pics of the others I already tossed previous.

Ohhh... you need to make a simple SAB out of a large clear tote man.
Hard to say now.
I should not have assume you were following proper sterile procedure.
But... if they do have bacteria and nothing more, you still may be able to pull a flush like stated before.
From here on out I would use a SAB and follow use good sterile technique...
No sense in wasting spores and supplies then waiting for jars to colonize unless you are doing things right. That's just a waste of time...

I would do a hybrid of both techniques, Still air lab tek mixed with SAB style. I would. No need though. Flowhood.
rpm32088, "slimey" is a symptom of contamination, mainly bacterial. Good move tossing those substrates.

The jars looked a bit wet as well, perhaps next time do not mix in as much water? I remember with my cakes I also had them a bit on the wet side although I do not think as wet as yours. They turned out alright, the bottom of 2 of the cakes did not fully colonize though.
You know, with the PF Tek I would think you could possibly get away without having a SAB when inoculating. Provided you were able to heat up the syringe needle and have it hot enough so that it is still glowing when you place it inside the holes in the jar. With my blowlamp I am able to heat up needles and blades enough so that I have time to move it from the flame to inside my SAB while it is still glowing (stays red for around 3 seconds maybe).
However get yourself a SAB, especially if you plan on growing more mushrooms in the near future. You will probably want to move away from BRF cakes and onto grains. Also I highly recommend getting into agar and for that you need a SAB at least.
Your jars were looking pretty good actually, other than the slight contam. I am sure you will nail it next time!
