psilocybe Azurescens on straw?

Lately, I've been pondering trying to grow Psilocybe Azurescens. I've seen a few different ideas on growing them, most of which are wood based. I have heard of some successes. It recently has occured to me that in my hunting experience, this species is rarely, if ever seen growing on wood in the wild. Where it does grow in the wild is in sandy soil around dune grass, with decaying grass most likely being the primary source of organic matter involved. I wonder if the spawn could be introduced to a decaying bale of straw, and cased in a sandy soil mix. (outdoor cultivation) Has anyone heard of someone trying this?

I haven't. But, you are right about them growing in dune grass along the coastline.

You would be better off to just spawn grain into woodchips/mulch and then innoculate a larger woodchip bed outside and cover with leafs and soil.

Thanks for the feedback. That's the way I've heard of people doing it before, some with very good success, but thought it might be fun to experiment a little. Sometimes great discoveries are made that way.
