I did this just for some fun while waiting for my bulk substrate to colonize.
First I mixed up this concoction:
1.Place in a pot: 2 litres water 1/2 cup cooked rye berries 2 Tablespoons Aramith Flour 2 Tablespoons Brown Rice Flour 2 Tablespoons Potato Flour 2 Tablespoons Honey 2 Tablespoons Light Malt Extract 2 Tablespoons Brown Sugar 2 Tablespoons Agar Powder 1 teaspoon salt
2.Bring to a simmer while whisking constantly, turn off burner. 3.Place the mix in a blender and blend until smooth, (may take 2 or 3 blender loads). 4.Put the mix back into the pot and bring to a simmer once more to ensure all of the ingredients are evenly mixed.
Then I poured about 500 ml of the mix into 4 takeout trays and let it cool. I had a fully colonized quart jar of AA+ on rye berries hanging around, so I crumbled it onto the gelled mix in the tray and then cased it with 50/50 peat and vermiculite. Covered it with a lid and waited.
Here is the result:

thats cool. I like that you're experimenting.I like to find less expensive ways of doing something. all those ingredients look expensive. I would rather eat them myself. But anyway good job.

Wow, nice job. I don't know how you pulled that one off, but I'm impressed. What happened to the other three trays?

2 trays went to another experiment to mass mycelium transfers, basically putting multiple rice sized agar transfers on the surface of the gel every square inch or so to get a lot of mycelium going fast, it worked well and was mixed into bulk substrate, it is colonizing well.
I am thinking of using this as an alternative to grains in the future, (albeit with less expensive ingredients). It would be nice to avoid all of the pressure cooking and work that goes with prepping rye berries.
The other tray was prepped with a jar of GT and is starting to fruit now, the GT is a bit slower than the AA+.

It seems I stumbled on to a food mix the mycelium like, it acts like a substrate. Sandwiching the grains between the gel and the casing promotes rapid growth downward and upward and doesn't give contams a chance to take hold.
Ps. the casing was not pasteurized, just mixed to field capacity in a bowl with a little lime for PH.
No need for a fruiting chamber, high humidity or temperature changes, I just took the lids off when they started pinning and mist them when the edges get dry.

Is that a hint of green I see creeping up in the bottom right corner?

You made me go and have a look, no it is not a hint of green, there is no contamination anywhere.

Looks like u cut it out in the firs pic there is sub under the bottom mushie in the new pic there is no sub.. But I could be wrong like I said b4 if its true props to u i don't wanna start anything but I wouldn't call this a tek it needs more research and expirements... Rye barries would contaminate when u mix your spawn in that's why we don't use it in bulk grows unless its 100% colonized and used as spawn.
