I sincerely doubt there are any hermaphrodites on this site.

I suppose gender and sexuality arn't expressly linked... It just seems confining to define things by whether you have a penis or not.

exactly. i think it would be a better world if the only time gender came into bearing was when you were at the sex store, and trying to decide what toys would best work with the anatomy you and your play partner happen to possess. Just think, what if gender didnt matter? im not saying eqal, just if it didn't matter not one bit.

if it were an option, the results would probably end up being like 2/3 of people who responded are hermaphrodites...

i believe the PC term is metro-sexual, or ambi-genderous.
which brings an interesting idea. How many of the users here can easily identify with the opposite gender? i am rather butch i guess, not into dresses or makeup, and i am a mechanic, going to school for my service tech ticket rite now. my SO has guy genitalia, but is more liable to cry in the touching movies than I am, and a lot better at expressing his feelings than most guys. and i love him to peices for this. i think we go rather well together.

so the question is, how many people feel as if they are ambi-genderous, 'cept for the genitalia?

sorry i dont know haw to make a fancy poll thingie.

the truth is that everyone is ambi-genderous in the way that you describe. the only reason we feel any separation from the other gender (with the exception of genitalia and other biological differences) is because society tells us that boys are supposed to act one way and girls another. males who act 'feminine' arent any less male and females who act 'masculine' arent any less female. after all theyve still got the essentials.

good point. It shouldn't matter to the spirit of the person what one has swinging or not swinging between their legs.
the question i was asking was how many S&P posters feel they are ambi-genderous by societies common perceptions? Just curious.

This comes down to a nature vs. nurture argument. Yes, most gender differences are imposed by society, but there are natural, inborn differences in behavior that are there for our survival(i.e. maternal instincts).

'ambi-genderous' is a flawed term. what i was trying to say is that gender has no place in discussion of personality. my personality is my own and is not a projection of my gender. despite the fact that parts of my personality may reflect a common trait of males, other parts may reflect a common trait of females. in the end, gender doesnt matter in the slightest in the matter of personality, unless you're deadset on following societal 'norms' or the status quo.

Honestly, I think the person starting this thread was probably just going for a penis/vagina ratio.

'the only reason we feel any separation from the other gender (with the exception of genitalia and other biological differences) is because society tells us that boys are supposed to act one way and girls another.' when i say 'other biological differences' i meant things like maternal vs. paternal instincts as they are a result of one's biological characteristics, are they not? i think that with those instincts aside theres no real way to predict what one's personality will be like.

yes, yes, i am not arguing. I agree with all that, and think llife would be better if no-one cared.
But I am curious how many posters here identify with both sexes moreso than common society perceptions.

i became interested in the sexual ratio here in the philosophy forum after reading the thread on women as objects. i was distraught that there so few people that were outraged by this degradation of women. after thinking it over i came to the conclusion that there simply must be very few women in the forum. i think this is a great shame because it is evidence that there is not a very wide range of backgrounds among us. we must keep this in mind when we consider other people's views.

so far it appears that this forum's users are about 75% male. i would venture to say that most of us have inflated egos and therefore tend to be hesitant to accept the ideas of others. perhaps we should try to recruit some people with some differing opinions and backgrounds. i think it would greatly diversify the range of discussion around here and improve the overall quality of the philosophy forum.
