I have 50 jars of Whole Oat spawn. I am growing ps. cubensis. BTW Whole Oats for Horse feed is IMO better than Rye by far. Much cheaper, and I have 100% colonization on all in 7 day!! I am amazed.
Ok on to the question. Since these jars ended up fully colonized way faster than i had planned i did not get to buy the coir that I usually use for bulk spawn. I plan to use this soil I have. It does have the nutrient beads in it, but it is composed of coco coir, peat, and sphagnum, as well as forest compost.
I do not want to kill all these beautiful jars, and while i am a experienced cultivater, I have never used this and I just wanted to open up a convo about this product.
Can you use it to case whole oats?
Can i use it as bulk substrate?
And finally can you fruit whole oats without casing?
Could I in vitro them?

If you PH buffer it with lime and properly pasteurise it you could use it as a casing layer but I would not use peat moss as a bulk substrate. I have fruited oysters on uncased whole oats out of the jar in my GH and it worked out really well. I haven't tried it with cubes.

How can you support the earth killing, greedy, scum suckers over at monsanto??????
You take that garbage and throw it out. And then next time you go buy potting soil, go for jiffy. Or something organic.

We all support evil corporations on a regular basis. If you drive a car, use anything made of plastic, Take medication, Eat almost any food sold in a grocery store or just basically live a modern life style you are supporting greedy and corrupt corporations.

Yeah, I really don't want to mess with my tek. I always do bulk with coir and just case it lightly.
I have got it down to a science with the grain spawn and coir. I will wait till i get paid and just shake the jars up to slow them down.
I am growing my summer supply and I don't like messing with my tek. I do like to experiment, but not with 58 jars! Thank you for your input. I hope to hear from others that have tried this soil.
I have Osiris India, B+, creeper, Lizard king, golden teacher, pink Buffalo, PES Hawaian, blue meanie. I have six jars of spawn for each. I also have three larger jars of B+ in addition to the sic pints. Very interesting to see the different strains grow, there are subtle differences. My fave as far as rhizomorphs, is Lizard King. Which I had never heard of until i went to The Spore Depot! Cool ppl over there. I will make a grow log soon. I like to be able to have most of the pictures before i post.
Thanks.
PS. I wrote this and forgot to post it, I have secured three bricks of coir! Thanks again.

Oh and the soil was given to me. I like to make my own potting mixes. Was just a bit short on cash, but I busted out the plastic and got that coir!
BTW MudaFuka I used you whole oat tek, but made a few changes, hard boil for 1.5 hours. Those oats are the bomb bro, and cheap cheap!!
