Grain Contam Questions

I am wondering at what point in the process contaminations are most likely to enter the picture. I follow all the sterile procedures and even use a hepa pressure box... yet still I get more than 50% contamination.

I have jars of popcorn and jars of wild birdseed, all with a single layer of tyvek acting as a filter.

On WBS I get a powdery white contam. On popcorn I get the green.

Your Pressure Cooker. You need a good one to penetrate the grains.

do you use a pressure cooker that goes to 15 PSI?

explain your technique in greater detail....

Damn I just had a detailed reply all typed up but it just got erased.

Anyway, its an old pressure cooker with a guage and I PC @ 15 psi for 1 hour and 10 minutes.

I follow sterile procedure and all aspects of the teks to the letter. Some jars always make it, so that makes me suspect its not a problem at the innoculation point.

Perhaps the PC is not really getting the pressure it reads ?
