super easy out door idea

hey i have been reading about card board lately.and how pc mycelium will eat it but it has no nutrients soo i doesnt contaminate. anyway i have an idea. go to my out door patch take a few wood chips that have mycelium. throw them into a jar of sterilized card board (soaked and strained 2) then if the mycelium gos through that small amount of card board take that and spwan it into more larger amounts of card board until i have the wanted amount of cardboard spawn. then make an out door patch with dung and straw. the dung and straw would give it nutrients but that would be outside. no wories about contams.

Yep, like mikey said, you dont have to worry about outdoor contams. Carboard isn't the best spawn to use. You might as well cook up some WBS or BRF, put this in Quarts, incubate and spawn into dung/straw. This will probably have better results. Its way easier, and most likely cheaper, and besides, you can't really make a jar of cardboard.
If you want to start an outdoor patch, just use BRF or any type of grain.

well that wasnt my point though . my point was you will start the jars on cardboard indoors and you wont have to worry about contamination even indoors.

So, youre suggesting, that one should start with cardboard jars? Like i said, its probably close to impossible to make carboard jars work, if youre sterile you dont have to lose any jars to contamns.
Its probably possible, but IMO its not worth the effort.

yes you can
this is ps cubensis on one inch strips of beer soaked cardboard the whole jar is full of about 30 strips of card board so yes a jar of card board can be done

i think if you take colonized wood chips from your outdoor patch then throw them in a jar with some sterilized cardboard that the whole thing would contaminate.

first i cut the cboard into inch long strips, then shove as many as i can into one of the tall 1/2 pint jars (not the short fat ones) , fill with beer (the one in the pic was soaked in Corona lite) soak for 12hours then the next day pour out all left over beer place a lid with polyfill filter and a innoculation hole covered with tape on top seal it with aluminium foil p.c. @ 15 psi for 30 min let cool down I put 2.5cc of G.T. spores in that one then cover the holeback up with tape and shake like hell to make shure the spores spreaed all around, place in incubator it took three days before the spores geminated and another 2 weeks to colonize the jar after it was done i used to spawn some poo out doors here is a pick of the first flush
i started the bed by digging a hole about 5 inches deep then put in a one inch layer of moist h.poo then a layer of cboard spawn another layer of poo another layer of cboard spawn then cover with a poo/dirt mix i took atleast a month before it flushed so i spent a lot of time waiting

Good job. Those are some nice looking mushrooms. I'm probably gonna give this a shot too. See how it goes.
Thanks for teaching me something new

ok so soaking strips in beer? isn't it the beer that is providing the nutrients and the cardboard which is merely providing the structure? Can one just innoculate plain ol cardboard soaked in water?

i live in north europe, if i would like to try growing cubensis outdoors then it should be when outter temp is round 25 ???? this happens here only in summer and i think that the humidity is not sufficent then. local magics start growin in september when it's like 10 degrees C out. then the humidity is ok, raining all the time. can i do cubensis with that kind of temps ????

well to find out I innoculated cardboard strips soaked in water and oven pasteurized with a contaminated agar plate with the contaminated part cut out. I'll have an answer in a week or so. BTW the contamination looked bacterial as it was a black splotch on the agar plate. The cardboard used was plain ol brown cardboard. Since cardboard is pretty selective to pc and not bacteria it should have no problems if i'm understanding this correctly.

the first time i tried this i used no beer and it took about 8 days to germinate when i added the beer it only took 3 days to germinate. so yes the beer is providing the majority of the nutrients but it will germinate without the beer it just takes longer.

I'd wager that it's the yeast that speeds the process up. One could likely reproduce the results using yeast-infused water. Someone up there was figuring that the beer acted as nutrients and the carboard only offered structure. I have seen many reports of cloning, cleaning, or selecting sectors on water soaked cardboard. While I doubt cardboard alone would support fruitbody production it certainly provides some degree of nutrition for mycelium to grow onto it at all. Take what I say with a dose of iodized salt tho, I've never experimented with cardboard. edit: silly me bumping months old threads just because i followed some links from present threads.
