Gotta love tax season!
    #21299181 - 02/19/15 02:00 PM (9 years, 2 months ago)

So I have finally ordered a pressure cooker, a Presto 16 qt, to be exact.
Gotta love tax returns! Especially since I got myself a 50 inch led flat screen for the living room too haha
But pressure cooker will be here early next week.
Got my WBS.
In the process of make SHIP lids for my jars. Injection ports are setting as we speak and my synthetic filter discs will be here in acouple days.

Pumped that in finally going to be working with a pressure cooker. Steam sterilizing just wasn't cutting it for me. Lost a whole batch of pf cakes due to contam over the last couple of weeks
Even kept them sterilizing for 90 minutes and used pretty sterile inoculation technique.

Praying for smooth sailing ahead!

Any tips for my adventure ahead? Lol

That's the plan! Have a mini mono built already. And have the tote of a bigger one on hand already. Hard part is going to be making the holes. I don't own any power tools -_-

My mini mono's hole were made with a lighter and let me tell ya, they don't look pretty.

Hey if you don't have any power tools you can heat up a metal can on the stove and push it threw the plastic, it should work a little better than burning your fingers off with a lighter.

Best thing about buying all that stuff is once you have it, you have it!

Tips, keep reading everything you possible can and ask questions when you have them. Good luck

Awesome!
I read one of the reviews on amazon and they were saying it doesn't for quarts jars at all. Glad to know that they didn't know what they were talking about lol

I thought the same thing so I took it out of the box at Walmart to measure it before I bought it. Even enough room to sit the jars on the lids if you wanted to. Mine came with the spacer plate tho. Got 7 quarts of wbs colonizing right now!

So I soaked my WBS for 18 hours, then simmered them for about 30 minutes today. Allowed them to dry for acouple hours. Stirring them up occasionally. Loaded my jars and PC'd them in my new pressure cooker I got today.

This is where I messed up. I only PC'd them for 45 minutes at 15 psi.
Should that be good enough?
If not, can I PC them for another 30 minutes, or should I restart the the PC cycle?

Personally I wouldn't risk it especially if you have a 50 lb bag. If you don't I recommend you buy one from lowes or tracker supply. Some place like that. Once you start hurrying and trying to cut corners is where you're going to run into problems.

I wouldn't sweat it, Its a learning experience.

I usually use rye grain but so im not too keen on WBS but im guessing its similar. IF not some one correct me but, I usually soak for 24 hrs then boil for 10 minutes. Start counting the time when it reaches a boil. Making sure to still the whole time to reduce cracked grains. Then I drain and let steam dry for a few hours.

I pressure cook at 15 PSI for 90 - 100 minutes. Then I let the pot cool over night.

All in all there is no hurrying in the hobby bro. Just take your time double check your work and you will be a myco-master in no time!

I have soaked for 3 hours and 12 hour time frames and didn't see much of a difference

Good luck
