All you need is to be able to heat it up and maintain a pressure of 15 psi. What's making you so doubtful?

some autoclaves have a steam release solenoid valve making them no good for mycology ...just curious if this setup is ideal

Interesting. Why does that make it no good for mycology?

... No it will not work. I'll take it off your hands for you...

I'm kidding. You need 15-20 PSI. You'll be golden. What's even better is if it goes higher than 15. If you can get it to 30 PSI (Or a temp of around 260~ F) You can sterilize your shit in about 5 minutes.

Because it would crack the jars purging the pressure that fast...I think autoclaves are meant for medical and dental tools.

So will a pressure cooker. You have to bring them up to heat slowly. So instead of 3 hours in the PC (1 hour heating, 90 minutes sterilizing, 1 hour cooling) It would take you less.
(1 hour heating, 10 minutes sterilizing, 1 hour cooling)
Or drop a whole lotta money on borosilicate mason jars. Or use mycobags.

I've dropped the pressure in my presto PC from 15 psi to zero in 5 seconds using cold water without cracking a single mason jar...

Oh My god you have no idea how hard i cringed right now. That was literally painful to read. You must be very very very lucky for this to have happened, because holy shit mang....
How was your moisture content after you did this?

Yeah I know, big mistake there. I only did it that way my first time, until I read about how it would affect moisture content. When I did it, it came out a little dry. So what exactly is the issue here? dropping the temperature from 120C to 100C? and that would be enough to crack jars?

Well you said cold water. My jars will crack if i put them on my cold countertop. Putting cold water would be a drop from 120 to like 50, not enough to thermally shock it, I dont think, UNLESS it had cracks. Which it probably did. There are microscopic cracks in glass unless you have them brand spanking new, and any one of these could get bigger. I bet if you tried this 5-6 times with the same jars, they would break.

Dude I meant cold water on the outside of the PC, so that the pressure drops. It's the fastest way to drop the pressure, the second fastest is to lift (without removing) the rocker that sits on top, as seen in this picture :
But someone tell me, is the main concern in dropping the pressure that the jars crack?

my main concern would be the pressure cooker blowing up, or more likely becoming warped and unusable.... don't throw cold water on a hot PC... ever

I won't be doing it any time soon, but the PC did warp slightly, which I fixed using a rubber mallet. The shit won't blow up man. Yes I know, a PC is like a bomb and you gotta be careful, but running cold water on it isnt gonna make it blow up. If for some reason I absolutely had to drop the pressure quickly, I would lift the rocker.
