Home made commercial PC

Howdy all you lovelies out there! This is my first post so forgive any ignorances to protocol.
I have been researching homemade pc's for a while and have come across very limited resources outside of RR's pc, and one other dudes on the forum. I have access to lots of scrap tanks as well as certified pressure systems welders in my area. I also have access to an acetylene torch and a feed electrical welder, and a buddy who can operate those.
What I want to do is turn a 500 gallon propane tank into a pc. I have two design ideas. First I could purchase a used boiler off of craigslist and weld a fitting onto the bottom of the propane tank to connect the boiler. I would obviously have the necessary rated pressure gauge, with multiple blowout valves, a manual release valve, and an automatic release valve rated for a system of this size. Most boilers I have come across are rated over 200 psi, whilst I will only be needing 15 so I don't think the boulder would have any issues. I would insulate the hell out of the tank and most likely mount the system to a skid that I can move with a tractor or something.
Second, I could just turn the tank into a boiler itself and leave out the secondary boiler. I don't think having the tank on its end would be a viable option, so I was thinking of having the burner towards the end with the tank on a tilt so the water stays to one end of the tank. I would weld racks at an angle for this design and horizontally for the level designs.
For both designs I would weld heavy duty hinges on to the cut off end of the tank. Grind it down, put a flanged collar on the tank side, and door side, and add a high temp gasket to the door. I would weld thick 1/2 inch or larger bolts onto the door and tank that would be individually tightened to form a seal. so... What are yalls thoughts on this. Viable? I can get a tank for about 200$ I hope to complete the project with less than 2000$

Holy crap. Sounds incredible but why on earth would you need this? Obviously not the hobbyist. Lol. I work in the plants and would love to build a way scaled down version

Sorry for the late response guys. been busy as fuck.
So I think from the pictures its pretty self explanatory but if you have any questions/suggestions fire them off
Basically I made this steel ring to which I'll weld it to a 100 gallon upright propane tank, then cut the base off a 23 quart pressure cooker and mate it to the ring with RTV and retaining screws. A rack will be fitted to a vertical piece of I-beam that I will attach to a wench to lower and raise that rack while filling/emptying the autoclave.

Interesting.
Pretty cost effective design.

I wouldn't use oxy acetylne or mig welding on something like this... You would have a higher rate of success with smaw(stick) welding. Your friend would need alot of experience to do this. This is classified as pipe welding. Experience with pipe fitting would really help.. I'm in my 3rd year of welding if you need any advice just pm me I'm always happy to help. If you are using mig welding( with a feed) then you would need it to be gas mig and not flux core.

if you want a stainless weld to be worth anything and not look like complete shit it needs to be completely purged with something like argon, no air/oxygen can touch the weld.

true tig welding would look nice.. using argon but remember when welding on stainless the backside of the weld needs argon too they make tools for this. just dont ever use c02 on stainless... it would cause alot of oxidation. but if you want to use stick use a e308 rod probably your best bet...

The tank and ring I made WILL rust so I'm planning on powder coating the whole thing after the ring is welded in place (but before the PC is mated). I personally don't care what the weld looks like as long as it holds pressure, I plan to make a sheet metal box insulated with hot water heater insulation, only the PC side of the apparatus will protrude through the top of the box, the whole thing will sit on a 4" concrete slab.

Sorry for the late reply y'all!
VDG thanks for the reference!
WillSolvem - Nice design there! Simple and effective it seems. That might have to do for now until I can afford hiring a pressure certified welder for the 500 gal retort. This will eventually be used for large scale spawn production for mycorestoration. The 100 gal may work for now though...
Silverstem - thanks for the offer for help bud!
I love y'all. Will update with progress in the future
