im a crew leader / climber for a tree service company , we begin every morning at 7 , hesd to the dump and haul off the brush in a trailer. i then call the customer and let them know were coming. once there we prob and oil the chainsaws , get a handsaw , paint and sometimes a climb saw ( chainsaw ) and climb up a tree some over 40 feet high , we do this without a harnest since the company does not provide one and it only slows you down. no helmets either since they block you view. i have done some crazy shit for example ... removing half a tree over a house with the old fashioned cut and grab toss to the side. one time we were doing a job in a beautiful house the day was cloudy so we decided to trim the trees before the rain come... no such luck 3 of us were up in some trees when it started pouring , the owner comes out and tells me to rest while it rains , i tell him were just about done when i hear a loud snapping sound and a thud a few seconds later we hear cries of agony ..... the kid fell 30 plus feet and tried to stop the fall with his hands which broke , his skull was cracked open , nose split in half , mouth split in half and no or little teeth... he fall not because of the rain but because he was in a type of tree that the branches snap unlike live oaks which bent and hold your weight ( i didnt know this at the time ) after trimming a tree i was climbing down to the ground , a polesaw hung in a branch so i could use both of my hands freely , accidentaly i hit the pole with my elbow and down it came ..... i knew not to look up partly because i didnt wanna get my face ripped open , so i froze and hung on luckily the blade barely cut my knucles ( not deep but long) i got 9 stiches nppp sry rolling pretty hard i apologize forthe grammar english is my weak tongue

You climb trees for a living. Yes, it makes you badass.
Only read the first sentence. Maybe once the formatting of your post isn't in a huge block I'll take time to read it. At that time most likely I'll regard you as not so much of a badass.
Until then, stay badass.

Sounds like you should use helmets and harnesses and work a little more slowly.
When your skull's cracked and your mouth is full of broken teeth that feeling of badassery will go an awful long way. (sarcasm)

yea man... them fellas cutting trees around the neighborhood, murderers! really upset watching the tree cutters cut down growth because wires need there space for our 21st century lifestyles we live with electronics and technology. all of stuff that hasn't been around for more than the last, how many years? when on the bigger picture, us humans have lived without all this for many, many years, but for some reason, we are so stuck on this that we will gladly burn our resources to make use of all this new age equipment.
on the flip side, sure, our reality will par up with all the wildest fantasies we could dream up with soon enough.
do you feel the tree cry as you hack away?

I am a machinist. Look up Lathe accidents on Google images (better yet DONT!).
Any job can be dangerous. That is why they make PPE, big ol' stickers, and common sense. If your company cuts corners to get an already dangerous job done faster and you agree with them about it there is another word other than bad ass out there that more properly fits.

Or just break his neck standing on a 6 foot ladder. It doesn't take much.
And no it doesn't make you a badass, OP. It makes you ignorant, careless, and a profound unwillingness to care for the safety of coworkers. OSHA would have a field day with you
It's one thing to put your own life at risk, it's another to be unsecured 40 feet in the air with chainsaws.
If I walked onto a job site and saw my workers being so careless I'd fire them all in a heartbeat. Even when I was managing subcontractors for Direct TV I fired a guy for his inability to practice standard ladder safety.
Even if I was to hire your company to do work on my property I would demand proof you're at least bonded and insured which I'm going to venture a guess you're not.

Dude, you typed that on a computer. Your computer uses electricity. And let me guess: you're not completely off the grid. And even if you were, your solar panels or generator were made in a factory that isn't. Do you seriously want overgrown trees to disrupt power? What's your concern? Cosmetics? The "spirit" of the trees, whatever that might be?

just a rant really.
so many people cutting trees around here. all looks like a bad chopped haircut of a fella now left to stand.
trees have their own electric energy circuits, so let them not mess with our easily moved electric needs, let us cut up theirs.
seriously, thoughts to chuckle at.
be safe.

That is a dangerous job but not what I call a bad ass. I think of a bad ass as being a dude who brawls and fights at the drop of a hat. I guess your stereotypical outlaw biker type. Good luck witht he job though, and stay shroomy!

I gave in and read the whole post.
So pretty much the job consists of some dangerous landscaping.
I would think that there would be mandatory safety regulations such as wearing helmets, haranesses, etc.
Since you do this job without any regard for common safety, your badassery surpasses mine lol.
I'm just messing around, but I've seen those guys that trim and cut huge trees like 90-100 ft up on TV. That's gotta be some pretty wild and dangerous work.

My brother inlaw is Bahamian and when they still lived in Nasau those guys would scale 60 foot Palm trees with machettes in bare feet to trim the fronds. That was some real crazy shit. Any job can be dangerous but the Iron workers and Roofers I know are pretty bad ass. Me I stay on the ground anymore fuck that falling and hitting hard at the sudden stop.

The no harness thing is stupid but anybody who climbs with a chainsaw is most definitely a crazy motherfucker to begin with.
By the way, your boss is a dumbass. Workmen's compensation is for his protection, not the worker's. The worker cannot sue except for gross negligence. Not providing a harness is gross negligence.

Do you even paragraph, bro?
Anyhow, there was a lot of landscapping activities where I used to live and I'd often see people on tall trees cutting huge branches. ALL always had safety equipments so I don't know if the fact that you use none makes you badass or stupid.
I hope you don't kill yourself though!

Your job isn't badass. Military infantry soldiers are badass. Cops and firefighters are badass. Surgeons who perform heart and brain surgery are badass. The people who clean up dead bodies after car accidents on the highway, those guys are bad ass.

Actually, logging workers is one of the most dangerous jobs out there. Fatality rate of about 127 out of 100,000. Way more dangerous than being a cop. But this sounds more like tree service than actual logging which is constantly cutting down giant ass trees. That said, climbing trees with a chainsaw without safety equipment is fucking retarded.
