What's with all these people who trip and drive?

So, I see it again and again on erowid; trip reports that involve people driving.
I'm not sure of exact figures here, but it seems as though nearly every other trip report seems to have some kind of driving involved.
And I see it on here.
What the fuck is up with that?
Why do people even want to take that risk, is there something I'm missing here?
I just don't think driving whilst you're seeing objects twist, wave, morph, and be in more than one place at once, is particularly safe, never mind the mindfuck aspect....

I'm with you....It is irresponsible to plan on driving as a part of the experience....I hear people talk about underestimating the potency or misidentifying the substance and getting stuck having to drive.
WTF...driving shouldn't even be in the same conversation with tripping....Why on earth would you even want to drive? It would certainly ruin the trip.

I agree, tripping with a sober driver though can be hilarious if on a crowded street

I sometimes have mindfuck related freak outs just while WALKING around town, I can't imagine being able to drive at all.
I have been a passenger in a car while tripping on just small doses of LSD and it felt like I was zooming down a twisty tunnel a light speed. Awesome as a passenger, but still pretty freaky and difficult to manage. No way I could navigate traffic rules, speeds, depth perception, etc.

I once had to drive from one location to another. I pulled out of the parking spot and pulled right back into it and caught a ride with someone else. The reason was just backing out my car felt like a spaceship backing up through different dimensions. It's an even worse idea than driving drunk.

Can't imagine driving in the thick of a trip but towards the beginning or end of one even if things are still a lil fucky you'll be fine pretty much just as challenging as whatever other form of impaired driving.
edit: just wanna clarify I don't think impaired driving is "fine" no one should be doing it just wanna state my experience that driving while tripping a little is the same as driving a little high, drunk etc

I drive on like hour 5-6 of trips and do just fine. Kind of on edge for a bit of it, but I do well aside from occasionally getting lost.

This. On lsd at least. I feel like when your really focused you won't trip as much, being on edge is the same thing. It's like having to talk to police while tripping, sometimes it'll sober you right up.

what trips me out is the fact that it seems like so many people do it and talk about it I trip reports but very very VERY few people ever end up getting in any sort of accident or anything because of it. You'd think that more people would wreck their car what with the road moving around and the feeling of going 1000mph when you're really going 30

In Pihkal, written by Sasha and Ann Shulgin, they've got a glossary entry for people that drive while under the influence of psychedelic substances on public roads. They call them idiots, and I would have to agree with them.
You not only put yourself in danger but innocent people as well. It's a selfish act that should be frowned upon. It goes against the safe and responsible use of these substances.

I was once drove while on mushrooms, eating a mcdonalds burger, and smoking a cigarette all at once. I was driving with my knees, as well.
That was way back when I first started eating mushrooms.
Good times.

Yeah i have hard time tripping and walking. I probably could drive in emergency though if i had to. My videogame driving on lsd is awesome. I prefer riding my bike so its only me risking injury.

This sounds like a terrible idea. I have played video games (more complex ones like wow) and it can get so distracting and confusing. To be good at a game like that, it requires similar attention that driving has. I would imagine it is impossible to really focus and drive correctly.
I haven't had my motor skills totally destroyed by LSD, but on even an 1/8th of mushrooms, I can't walk. It's like my legs are jello and I am walking over an infinite hill like in that one scene in that one cartoon (if you know what I'm talking about) while by body is going up and down to the visuals. If I walk on a soft surface like a bed or something, it is impossible to keep balance.

I too admit for being irresponsible... I did a lot of dumb shit back in the day, and consider myself lucky to be alive, and have not injured anyone else. I drove home one night, and felt like everyone was passing me on purpose, and they knew what was up. Pretty scary

I love driving and listening to music on lower shroom doses 2-3 grams. I see nothing wrong with it. does not make me feel impaired one bit. you might not like it, but I could care less! have a nice day.
