    #2129545 - 11/22/03 09:15 PM (13 years, 4 months ago)

Hi, i bought a ban caapi plant about a month ago, since then ive had it under a fluoro CF40w light and its only grown 2 nodes. Does Ban. Caapi always grow really slowly, I'm watering with Fert everyday, as i heard it likes a lot of it, anyone else here grow ban. caapi? How quick is growth? I figured i'd have vines hanging from my ceiling in no time.
Thanks for any advice

It's pretty fast in spring and summer and goes somewat dormant in the winter if it's mild. The vines do grow very long so have some good climbing space for it. I'm pretty sure that it can't take a good chill as the leaves are very thing. Maybe when it gets older it will be think enough to survive a freeze but not until then. Of course you said it's under a light. Well, you really will have to wait for the main stems to acquire some girth, maybe up to five years or so. However, it's said that the leaves are also MAOI. Maybe try them first if this is your desire. But regardless, new plants and seedlings have a shock to get over after being in the mail and then they take off. Usually about two months are needed for them to get their "land legs."

Hi, thanks for the response. Sounds great.
Whats the ideal light cycle for them? I've been going 20/4.
Any thoughts are appreciated.
