Do you care when people tell you someone died?

So just now my girlfriend was telling me about how her bosses brother died in his sleep at 43 because of a stroke...3 years ago. I dont even know what to say to that, am I supposed to care or be sympathetic? Im always hearing about how someones sisters fatherinlaw was recently diagnosed with cancer or something and I just couldnt care less.
What do you guys do when situations like this happen? How do you feign enthusiasm?

well if it's a close family memeber i definitely care.
but if it's her bosses brother I wouldn't give two shits. but if your girlfriend cares about it, you should also pretend to care.

thats funny you bring this up because I don't believe in saying sorry to someone. why the hell would I be sorry? I know its brutal but I just say "oh bummer" thats it. dieing to me is not a bad thing, i kinda look at it like the vikings i go to this wonderful place with eternal battle. i think that would be dope

Well thats the thing. I cant tell if she actually csres a bit or if its just like "what a pity."
Usually I just say what most people would think to say. "Oh what a pity," blah blah blah.
I just dont understand how people can actually care. It makes no difference to me, ive never met this person, thats it. Maybe I was just thinking that other peiple in my situation cared, im glad that its not just me

Why help them be human? The better they get at pretending the more damage they can do.

Once you start losing people you love, you grow sort of a sympathetic reaction.. Well I did anyway.. I generally feel bad and can show that feeling, if I can tell the death affects the person telling me.Quote:

You sound Pretty dam insensitive. You say sorry or something because it's common curtesy..
You can at least say that's sad to hear or sorry to hear that.. But by all means you shouldn't be burdened with anything negative LOL..
People don't read minds, nobody knows that you think dying and being a Viking is "dope" So when you have a less then appropriate response, you make yourself look insensitive im sure.

thats a valid point but as they are asking about it on the shroomery I'm don't think they are going to reach dexter level.

thats honestly a huge default of mine is how insensitive I am. my old man raised me rough, heres an example i was using a high lift jack on truck when I was a kid my dad told me to hold it he let go the lift fell the arm swung up hit me in the jaw crushed my teeth knocked me out and he came over to me and said get and hold the fucking jack. blood pouring out. thats one of hundreds of examples. i lack emotion for things like that. its just me homie.

Yeah but letting that tradition continue because you allow it to is not an excuse to continue doing it... No offensive man. .. If your insensitive it's because you choose to be
But using your dad as an excuse to be insensitive is like blaming the soda for you spilling it..I know it happens. And I understand what your saying, My dad raised me in a similar way but I've changed that behavior because I don't want my kids or me to be anything close to what my father is.l.. Sure I have a VERY short fuse and anger issues but it's breaching my code of ethics that lights the fuse. I Won't have children untel i have my anger under control
You have the power to change. Blaming your parents for your actions is not healthy.
I hope you change it for your kids sake

relax. they took that out of the diagnostic manuel because every one is a sociopath...
but basically this demonstrates a lack of empathy. society kinda expects you to be able to recognize how others might feel in a situation even if you do not feel that way yourself, and to respond in some way other than indifference.

I agree with doc at least feign interest, otherwise saying "that's a bummer would make you look insensitive. If you don't care at all chicks don't like that, Ahhhh Valhalla, a truly unique concept of the after life(I love norse and greek mythology). Interesting you mention Vikings. I'm just about to watch that show after Spartacus: Blood & sand . I haven't seen either but I figure I'd start watching different shows (which I never do)Quote:

People are never gonna stop dying
My response is usually "that sucks" or whatever, depends on how well the person knew them or if I knew them or not. If they knew them I usually say I'm sorry to hear that too

I'm going to my first open casket funeral soon. I've never seen a dead body. You think that will be a good set and setting to trip? I'm thinking about taking an 8th beforehand
I am seriously going to an open casket though and I'm nervous. Have you been to one?

I feel ya, man. I am a very loving husband and father i just dont look at death the same way as others do. I don't ever want to change that. Also emotions can get in the way of rational thinking. just who I am. Dr. Dank you cool a fuck and I appreciate your empathy with others we need peeps like yourself cause if everyone was like me the world, it would suck.
