inoculating outdoors in the snow??

Yea im a newbie...ive cultivated a few times on pf cakes(treasure coast and creepers)..never had any contaims...my question is: has anyone ever tried to inoculate jars(qaurt/grain) jars outside in the winter while there was snow on the ground? And MORE IMPORTANTLY Wouldnt most contams be killed or dead already accept for the ones on ur body and tools...is this a bad ideal..i live in an old small farm house and i heat with wood so im pretty sure this stirs around alot of contains through out the air..i recently bought a small holmes hepa-type air purifier that suposably removes 99% of air pollutants..i was going to make a shmuv box by taking a trash bag and tapeing it around the hepa box and cutting holes out for my hands...how effective is this for not getting contams?

Do mold and mushrooms grow outdoors in the springtime, or do they wait for your house to contaminate them with spores?

a still air box would work better then using a air purifier. those little air purifiers wont block endospores.

The cold and snow don't kill contams, they go dormant. They are still out there floating on the wind, like seeds waiting for the appropriate conditions.

Its got the type of filter in it that protects against ragweed pollen grass pollen dust and says its 99.7 effective at removing mold spores pet dander and smoke

id rather be in a still air box inoculating then be outdoors. there is still endospores in the air outside in the winter. so it wouldnt really make it safe. but if you are asking weather or not it would ruin your jars the answer would be its safer to do it indoors in a sab.

its a good chance that it would not help but if you wanna test it out for yourself go ahead a put a garbage bag on it and use a petri dish with agar and put it in front of the air purifier then close the dish. you will notice within 24 hours that there is mold growing inside. the mini airpurifiers say they block 99% but in reality the airflow would be almost none if it blocked that much because spores are so microscopic its hard to block them with a filter... the hepa filters that you see alot of cultivators using are huge because you need alot of airflow to make it past the filter.

I'd give it two days, but
Endospores aren't the same thing as spores. That seems to be a large part of the confusion.

you want a still air box. not a filter, not a shumv, not outdoors, you want to build a still air box.

I think this is not such a crazy idea. The outdoor spore counts are generally very low in the winter-- if the ground is totally snow covered most spores are going to be under the snow-- Its unorthodox, and I wouldn't want to work out in the cold, but certainly worth a shot!

typicaly your gonna what to inoculate your jars outside in a chicken coop when the wind is blowing really hard, but before you actually inject your jars make sure you kick up all the staw in the coop so its nice and dusty. one way you can tell if you have enough dust in the air is when you begin to cough, then your good to go.

What are you planning on innoculating your grain with, spore solution?
Do you have a port you can inject through/polyfill to push the needle through, or are you going to open the lid and squirt it in?
You might want to read up a bit of why a still air box works. You dont need to sterilize the air, you just need to keep the air still as possible to try to keep contams from falling into your work
