just because they only absorb a small percentage of their total light in the green spectrum dont mean it dosent serve a function? maybe a secondary resonse only requires minimal interaction?
they absorb it so theres a good possibility its for a reason! how big remains to be seen
blckdust why does it say chlorophyl a and b on that chart, no chlorophyl in mushrooms they are not plants or so i keep getting told lol

Of course green spectrum is also important, you make totally sense. And you are not the only one who think the same. This is a quote from tradd cotter from his book.

thanks what did you think of the test using blacklight to define areas on the growing mushrooms that reflect light and what areas absorbs it, solely as an indicator of what part of the mushrooms absorb light to back up what hamloaf says about mushrooms not absorbing light from their canopys but their sides?
and i questioned about vitamin d days ago lol them two pages say alot and speak voloumes!

Hmm by sides he meant the stem? I don't think a white stem of a cube can absorbe very much light.. I think it reflect more light that it can absorbe, not for any reason is white. That's why i think if there is something in the mushroom fruiting body that can "absorbe" light is the cap. Just by pure logic. Is my opinion tho.

The cap and the stem are just organized mycellium....it can all benefit from a bit of light IMO.....subs, stems, and caps alike.

Yeah, even a white spawn jar can benefit from light. But in terms of light absorption a dark tissue will absorb more light than a white one, or am i wrong?

The P. cubensis A+ strain has a unique appearance with ghostly white stems and caps, in most cases almost completely without pigment.
When exposed to light it can still produce some pigment, therefore it's technically not a true albino strain, but leucistic.
In order to grow creamy white 'albino' mushrooms, you'll need to expose the mushrooms to a bare minimum amount of light as soon as the first pin emerge. For example a dark corner of the room, but never in complete darkness.

heat from light yes but heat is just one energy that can come from light
so do you agree the blacklight may define areas associated with absobing or reflecting light? and would be insightful?

I never really thought about it until now and just chocked it up to MS, but I have had 3 tubs that were sitting directly under a window that received direct sunlight (the 3 were at different times as it's the same place in which they were all sitting) and each one had a really tight and dense full canopy. The light also raised the temperature and sped up evaporation so how much was from the light vs the indirect factors resulting from the light I can't say, but I do think it was more than simply genetics now that I'm reflecting on it. I eventually stopped putting them in front of the window for fear that it was getting too hot and causing them to dry out too much, but maybe I should reincorporate that somehow. I'll wait and see how my tubs do under the hps and leds.

I'm not talking about heat absorption but different light wavelengths absorption. And darker materials are well known to absorb more heat than white ones anyway.

yes as i think black like light is made of all colours so will absorb all light spectrums hitting it and reflect little back so darker prob does absorb more light

Black 'light' does not exist, blackness is the absence of light. The reason things appear black (or any other color) is because they absorb a specific wavelength of light and reflect the rest back. If something appears green for instance it absorbs all of the wavelengths of light except the green spectrum. The brighter/lighter something is in color the less energy it absorbs/the more is reflected back. If something appears black it absorbs the full spectrum, thus practically no light is reflected back. With white it's the opposite, nearly all is reflected black.

read the top, first box!
all light colours are absorbed and none reflects from black. light is said to be all colours and black absorbs all these colours reflecting none back!
are we not splitting hair and saying the same in different words?

Maybe I can find it on pdf.
