cobweb mold
    #21292099 - 02/18/15 05:49 AM (9 years, 2 months ago)

So, bought some bud... Noticed it was a little damp but not extremely wet but the stem was like bendy, looking through it I noticed cobweb mold not everything... But little areas on top of the bud, can't post pictures though.

I know its cobweb mold so... To ask is it harmful to smoke?

I wouldn't risk it, just make some iso hash from the bud. But if its only on 1, stick it out to dry and cut that area off to try and stop it spreading.

as soon as I seen it I started ripping at the buds! It hasn't effected anything else so I'm hoping all good chucked the other (effected nugs out) and now drying on paper so it can't spread anymore!

Cobweb isn't toxic, however... You should smoke quality. I would ditch it if I were you

hahahah, how fucking dumb are you.  You tell him don't risk smoking the weed, but do an extraction on it?

I have made iso hash from bud that was covered in cobweb mold, it didn't affect me at all and i was able to save otherwise un-smokeable product i find nothing stupid about it at all.

i mean, i'm not a mold scientist, but if you're worried about toxins in the mold growing on your weed, it would stand to reason any sort of THC extraction would have a greater than 0 chance of also extracting the mycotoxins you don't want.

Post a pic to get a better response. Its most likely spider mite webs though.
Could have been sprayed too. But either way I would not smoke it, toss that shit.

28 grams 250$ not wanting to toss it, and I know! 250 and its got mold! But if it was dried properly, I wouldn't have this problem.

i have ripped all other buds up, and have sorted into what was effected and what was not! Its dry now so mold won't spread anymore! Sorry guys risking this one, and will be blazing after work.

(it was only small areas that were effected) so not extremely worried! I was pretty pissed off though! Thanks for the replys guys!! Much love!

I wouldn't smoke any buds out of that bag. If you saw mold on some of the buds all the other buds are probably infected as well even if you can't see it.

hey man, its your lungs. Sucks to lose 250$, but I would have given it right back to the dealer and demanded my money back or trade for better product.
And I wouldn't go back to that guy, he has no scruples if he sells weed like that.

I would of, but I didn't see it till I started tearing at buds! Will be having another look after work, and notifying her also. Thanks for the replys and information!!

Op just spritz it with peroxide if your sure it's cobweb and you're worried about it but then again fire is the best sterilizer there is. So i'd say just smoke it.

You can't sterilize fungal toxins or spores by smoking it.

Once you put the flame to it, the mold will die. But I would take it back to your dealer and tell him the weed wasn't dried all the way and therefore grew mold and that you want your money back. If he can't do that, tell him to learn how to buy better shit and that you're not going to buy from him again.

A flame can sterilize a needle sure but we're talking about microbiological contamination of plant matter. Two different things completely unrelated. Mold spores can survive flame and some microbiological toxins are not degraded by combustion.

You're the one making assumptions, not me. I'll post my sources for you then you can do the same. Enjoy your bowl. :nonono:

-Spores of Aspergillus fumigatus and Mucor species survive in smoke drawn from pyrolyzed marijuana cigarettes- Kurup,V.P., A. Resnick, S.L. Kagen, S. H. Cohen and J. N. Fink. 1983. Allergenic fungi and actinomycetes in smoking materials and their health implications. Mycopathologia 82: 61-64.

-Evaluation of waterpipes for smoking Aspergillus- contaminated marijuana. They found only a 15% reduction in transmission of fungal spores.- Moody M.M., R.C. Wharton, N. Schnaper and S.C. Schimpff, 1982. Do water pipes prevent transmission of fungi from contaminated marijuana? New England J. Med. 306: 1492-1493.

-Some microbiological toxins are not degraded by combustion- (Llewellyn & O'Rear 1977).
