Mycelium Question: "Feeding the Multitude"

What is/are the reason(s) one cannot or should not keep growing the same mycelium, colonizing substrate to another substrate, etc., instead of making new mycelium with new spores? Like, an eternal mycelium?
Thank you in advance for your advice.

Because mycelium is a living creature with a set amount of cell divisions. Once you pass a certain amount they start to slow down. Eventually you'll get mycelium that doesn't colonize anything and just sits there or is super prone to contamination.
Mycelium colonization is a race against other contams. The slower they take the more chances of contamination.
If you want to use the same mycelium again and again make a master slant or store it in a petri and make transfers and grow them out. Unless you have myc that produces a full canopy every time you fruit it you can probably use new genetics every now and then

I see. That makes sense. Would you suggest making a slant or cloning? What tek do you like to utilize?

Agar > Agar transfer > Fruit > Clone.
If you want to keep that clone forever slant a piece. I would suggset fruiting first, getting a clone and slanting that because at least you have an idea of potency and fruiting potential.
What teks do I utilize for what?
Agar? Pastywhytes Easy Agar tek is where I started, now I pour tri-petris. Bulk substrate? Elementary coir tek.
I always dunk my grains too.

The word for this is senescence.
