Cubensis Mini Monos Grow Log - KSSS - **PICS + ANIMATIONS**
#21281320 - 02/16/15 06:27 AM (8 years, 11 months ago) |

**UPDATED**
March 8th - The GT tub was growing so strangely because it was all contaminated with verticilium for sure and who knows maybe something else too. This cause all of the fruits to grow with the same abnormality. I will leave the photos of the GT tub in the body of the thread but I am editing down the main thread to just show the KSSS tub because I am going to continue this log with another mono tub using one of the clones I took from this tub.
So I'm still relatively new to mono tubs and I grow a lot of smaller projects testing different cultures and growing a number of species in parallel in pp5 containers with little self contained FC tops. I'll put a post up on those grows once I get my photos together to show some results. In the mean time I wanted a place to land updates on my monos and also to ask for advice where my experience is lacking. So far so good I think!
Feb 14th - Spawned 3 quarts of each KSSS (MS) and GT (MS) spawn grown on a 50/50 mix of WBR and wheat berries. The bulk sub is half a 650g brick of coir, one quart of verm and one quart of straw and I used MudaFucka's improved bucket tek for pasteurization. Hit my temps perfectly

Spawn Run:

Fruiting KSSS:

Spawn run through first flush animation:

Harvested 828 wet grams off this first flush. Here is the big cluster I cloned. Dry weight of first flush 90.5 grams.

At harvest:
Second Flush:

Harvested 200 grams wet just these 4 shrooms 21.9 grams dry

Another 100 grams wet this morning and 30 grams the next day.
Third Flush:

Third Flush Harvest Highlights:

Full Animation:

Whoops, a fourth flush!
My compost bins were completely frozen into 8' snow banks so I had nowhere to toss the sub. I put it on a shelf with the liner still on and forgot it. I went to put it out on garbage day and boom. 88 more grams wet.

=====================
Clones:

These two plates are a day apart - you can see the clone that is ahead. The cap in full colour is the cloned individual on each plate. Coming along very nicely! Some ropey sectors to transfer on both of these. I'll probably just make one xfer on each to be sure it's clean but I don't mind if they aren't isolates - I just want the healthiest looking myc off each clone. Grain masters are recovering well from the A2G xfer.
OK few weeks later I'm still here! I ended up with 6 quarts of spawn. Two were jasmine rice (don't ask) and 4 were WBS with WBR. They were 3 of each cloned fruit from above. CVG with improved bucket tek. I used a whole brick and put 2 quarts in a small mini mono and 4 in the larger one.

Tub 1 (2 quarts of spawn):

Animation for the first tub:

First flush:

Tub 2 (4 quarts of spawn):

Animation for the second tub:

Thanks BL! I really like the mix too - the WBR seems to give it more moisture and fluffs up faster than the wheat berries but I doubt I could shake the jars at all without the wheat in the mix as I find my WBR is always a little sticky compared to other grains. This is my new go to!

sweet, i gotta try that! i've been tossing a handful of dry RGS seed at the bottom of my bags, then loading semi wet grain on top>PC, so any residual moisture on outside of grains drips down and hydrates the RGS during PC cycle. not sure how its going to affect performance yet, probably will know in a week. its fucking cold as shit here, fruiting takes forever

IKR - it's 36 below (celcius but -40c is -40f so I guess it's the same thing lol) and my projects are all taking so loooooong!!! Moved these tubs up into the upstairs bedroom and that seems to have helped. The WBR seems to do the same thing you are talking about - absorbs any and all extra moisture during the PC cycle making it super easy to get your moisture levels right. I've found myself on the dry side with straight wheat a few times with wispy slow growth as a result.

Updated! What do you guys think? How long should I wait after 100% to fruit it? I was going to give it 7 days for the spawn to run even though it's going to be through the sub in 4 days. Advice?

lol I just remember in Frank's mono tub write up he says it should be ready in 7-21 days... do you usually fruit it as soon as it gets to 100% cron?
Learn me up mang! This is only my second (and third) mono tub ever :P and my last one wasn't anything to call home about
got about 4 oz dry off half a brick of coir and a couple quarts of spawn but I used the wrong LC and ended up with a clone of an in vitro pin and the damn thing side pinned like a bitch.

Cool, I don't feel as bad now - it was a good fruiting clone, just 90-95% of that 4oz came off the sides of the sub and without a liner I had to mangle it pretty bad. That pic was what it did after the third flush was harvested.
I'll keep a daily update on this bad boy. Thanks as always cron!

Spawn run day 4 w00t w00t. Cat almost knocked my GT tub over last night lol I think I tossed her clear across the room. Still got a bit to go before 100% but it's damn close!! Fuck I can't wait to have some fruits going - it's been like 8 months or something. This is kinda turning into a grow log... maybe I should've posted in logs but nobody goes to that forum lulz.
Forgot to mention Cronicr - this is one of the prints I got from you in trade. Is this your print or from someone else? taGyo said you had some KSSS that made regular cube fruits and didn't throw the acorn shaped mutants. What should I expect from this guy? Cubes ?

Update spawn run day 5! I think they need one or two more days before fruiting. What do you guys think? Is this 90%? 95%?

i always got better results with KSSS when i let it consolidate and then cased it, suggested by cronicr. it is prone to mutants, so a casing will help. GT i'd wait 3-4 more days, but i don't fruit at 100%, i always wait a bit. so its up to you.

Thanks mate! I'm feeling impatient as I haven't had any mushies growing in months and months so I think I'll follow cronicr's advice and fruit at 100% which may be tomorrow or maybe over the weekend. I'll wait until those last bits of coir and straw are gobbled up.
Don't think I'm going to case these guys. taGyo seemed to think cronicr had stabilized some KSSS that fruited without throwing mutants and I got this print from Cronicr so... but if I get some spaceships in the mix I'm ok with that lol

oh nice!! yea tagyo is a KSSS guy. i can't remember if he cased or not, i guess not? technically, i should say the consolidate and case was cronicr's brothers thing. but i thought cron did that too.
if u fruit at 100%, if u see any straw poking out that is uncolonized, try to pick them out. it won't harm the substrate, and there shouldn't be many. but that way, there is no uncolonized substrate sticking out. i use scissors if its like a half straw stalk.

Ah nice one - I was wondering about the few strands of straw sticking out. First time using straw in a mono tub - usually I just use it in myco bags or Muda style bottles.
And I don't think taGyo cases his KSSS spaceships, but he's TRYING to get as much mutant KSSS as possible lol
