How anal are you guys about cleaning up aborts/stumps and whatever after harvest? Does it affect second flush?

I just get what I can, cut as close to the substratw as I can without tearing it up etc..

Just wonderimg what the consensus is these days, when I first came on this site like 15 years ago it was... if you leave aborts they'll rot and contam etc.
Heh.

Just wondering what YOU do to prep for next flush
-thx

I leave the little shit, imo a leftover abort isn't any different than a leftover stump as far as contams go, I also have not noticed an effect on later flushes from doing so

I cut with scissors as close to the base as possible without disturbing the sub

Between the 1st and 2nd flush its sometimes hard to tell if the pins are going to abort or mature over the next flush so I leave everything and dunk and then by the time the 2nd flush is over its pretty distinct whats an abort and whats a pin thats gonna mature

What about really big dense clusters taking up big area as of the substrate, are you less likely to get new pins over these areas?

Personally i try to just clean it up as much as i can but from my experience, aborts are aborts and are done and not really using up any of the nutrients from the cake so 2nd flushes and 3rd flushes can still come through. From now on tho I'm going to just gently clean them off so further flushes will come through prettier no ?'s asked. :2cents: -TheLostBoys

It'll probably just pin somewhere else on the sub but I have seen pins come through/right next to stumps so its not out of the question. As long as you're not ripping up the sub and leaving spots for con tams to take over let it run its course

If you take a fork and rake the aborts until they're dead they'll revert back to myc.

That's what I do. Or I just pull the aborts. The only aborts I've ever had are with KSSS so when one aborts like 50 more do so when I have a cluster like that I just take a fork and rake. Then I wash off the excess mushroom stuff cause chances are I'm dunking or misting right then.

Whaatttt?! The aborts are the cream of the crop for potency. Why not pick them and save them for an abort trip? You'll never 'rake' again lol

'cause with KSSS the aborts are tiny dots :/

There's really not much to harvest.

I try to pick as many aborts as possible and save them for making tea but other then that I'll leave super small ones and stumps alone
