Soooo many aborts??

Hi Friends,
I got a pretty good, first flush off of a Mexi-cube cake, next to this one. This cake is a PE after 2 weeks in the SGFC. This is my first grow. Are these all aborts? Is this just what PE looks like...just taking forever? Where might I have gone wrong? 68-72*, 99% RH, much better FAE than in the auto-terrarium I started with...

Am I just being being impatient? Should I dunk and roll, again? Thanks, experts! I'm grateful for your thoughts...

I've always heard PE does not do very well on cakes...
I have never tried to do myself it though.
Hopefully someone who has will drop in for you

PE is slower then most cubes.
Those also don't look like aborts to me. Aborts are jet black most of the time, your caps have a healthy brown to them.
When did you start seeing pins?

Thanks, folks. They started pinning a week ago, and haven't gotten much bigger. I see maybe 50 pins on this cake, but none are taking off. PE may not do well on cakes. I'm certainly not certain. I just started Cambodians in Rye Berries, so maybe if that goes well, I'll try PE with the grain. As Stromrider suggests, they are pretty dark; however, I agree taGyo, that they are a dark brown. I have seen a jet-black one on another cake, and these don't look the same. New ones pop up almost every day, but absolutely creep along (unlike the Mexi-cubes). I'm not sure if I just helped anyone to help me with these observations, but I appreciate all of your inputs!

If they started pinning a week ago and they're not growing they're aborts :/
Show me your SGFC and where it is.

Aww...man. Well...at least I know. I have 4 more cakes that I just put in the SGFC. See below:
Thank you for the input, taGyo. I also run a 12/12 6500K light.
Oh...I have a full 4 inches of perlite on the bottom, now.

You need to get that chamber up off the table so air can circulate up through it. Put some cups or jars under it

Add an extra inch just to make sure (If you have it, if not don't worry about it)
There you go, this is why they aborted, low humidity.
Listen dude you had a beautiful pinset for cakes, if they still have water in them prop the SGFC up and get yourself about 3 more " of perlite because it looks like you have 2 there and they'll push out more pins.
You're going to do GREAT once you get this set up, seriously, I'm looking forward to seeing extraordinary things from those cakes.
Dunk the one that flushed for 24 hours, don't re-roll.

I had a lot of aborts in my monos as well :/ but you're running cakes. Fae or humidity problems maybe? I know that those were my main issues.
Edit, ah yep, humidy, didn't read gyos post lol.

Guys...this is great stuff! Thank you, thank you. I wondered about not having it high enough. Thanks to you guys I'll prop it on some Solo cups until I can work out a more permanent solution. What do you guys use?
I never mind making mistakes as long as I have the forum to learn from.
I'll post pics of the next flush.
Cheers!

Pick the aborts gently so you don't damage the substrate.
Aborts are psychoactive, I'd dry them and keep them. Sometimes they're super potent as well.
I used a milk crate for my SGFC. Worked great.

Thanks for the info, taGyo! Mike crate...brilliant.
I'll pick the aborts and dunk (no roll), yes?
Below: your advice at work. Many thanks!

No roll.
Give it a week before you dunk to see if they bounce back. They should given the proper environment pin again because they still have moisture inside it. Dunking is just to replace that moisture after a flush so if it didn't push it out they might be fine. They will probably pin before a week since they already pinned once and all of a sudden their environment got much better.

Good work gettin the SGFC up high. Definitely needs the currents coming in from the bottom. Make sure to watch your temperature as that has cause aborts for me before. Maybe for now stick with regular cubes for the cakes and make a PE tray or somethin and throw it up in there. You're doin good keep it up!

BigBear, it's really good to see you here, too! I was hoping I would. Thanks for the positives. What about the temperature you mentioned? Too hot or cold? It's -2*F outside this morning, so it's been a challenge keeping my cakes above 68*, even with the house set at 70*. Do you suppose I could run a small heater in the room, leaving the door open for air flow? Many thanks, BigBear!
