Another New Shroom Species from Koh Samui,
    #2127434 - 11/21/03 02:54 PM (13 years, 3 months ago)

These mushrooms have been found in two locations in Thailand, one on Koh Samui Island, two cow paddies like this one here.

A second collections were made in Suphanburi at the Kwai Park.

Here is the image from Samui. Currently the DNA is being perfromed, it is not know if this species is hallucinogenic or not since no bluing was observed after picking. The caps are leathery and they slightly resemle larged versions of P. coprohila but are diffrenet than the P. violacea as they get much bigger but not as large as big cubes

Those are some beauties. Nice Psilocybes.

Any other photos? A collection photo perhaps?

Yes I have more fotos of the two manure heaps and then the picked shrooms. Later I went north with my colleague from the University to Suphan buri and we made a collection of the same shroom. At first we thought that they were the P. violaceas we discovered in 2001 but they were the same as the above shrooms from Koh Samui. T here were only two cow pies with these shrooms in them at Samui. Maybe at other times of the year they are more prolific. We also have anoterh tall Psilocybe similar to semiglobata but real tall,. Roy Watling id'ed that one also as a new Psilocybe species but not psychoactive and neither are these or the P. violacea.

The P. angkoria from Cambodia is and has bluing int he driying specimens. when collected.

Were they growing in cow manure or was it Kwai (water buffalo) manure. Even though the different locations are not in close proximity the climate is relativly the same.

true or false:

Mushrooms who fruit off dung are likely candidates for moderately easy cultivation.

That really isn't a true or false question....there are many species that grow of dung.

I think I remember John posting this image before, when he was over there last.

They are growing on that pie in a gregarious fashion.
They must fruit in prolific numbers.
They don't "look" to be an active Psilocybe/Stropharia though.

A super discovery none-the-less.

Keep on shroomin,
GG

There will eventually be some chemical analysis. I took many shots of this grouping form two dung heaps about three feet from one another in Ban Hua Thanon, in the middle from the highway.

The other collection was made in Suphanburi at the Buffalo farm. I posted a few images of the Koh Samui one but have many I did not post.
