To me Irvin is like some kind of deep disinfo agent, in that he hides the real questioning about Mckenna behind a load of BS about some fukin confession he's supposed to have made which has been debunked. as THOUGH he would even admit it!

Whereas my question has to do with the reality that the formost leaders of the psychedelic movements spanning 50s 60s into 80s and 90s with McKenna have been mainly psychedelic transhumanists

Unlike yawn Irvin I am not anti psychedelics, anti feminism and homophobic (which I am guessing he is because he is always going on about how the CIA wanted to 'break up the nuclear family.
He claims psychedelics were pushed by the CIA to create 'deadheads' who were apathetic, and it disrupted the anti war movement. ALl that is total BS to me. From my memory of the 60s and I was  there unlike him, it was the movements bringing people together with the aid of psychedelics and music which greatly inspired the anti war movement and ecological concerns and repulsion of the patriarchal 'family unit' trip with the father (mindcontrolled by the TV and corrupt politics, and misogyny at the head of 'his' family who mustn't be defied, and he presenting the cultural 'order'. This is why youth began wanting to form communes
in my OWN experience with psychedelics they have deeply helped me to see through the insanity of war, and I bet many here might share same inspiration?
But Irvin wants to replace psychedelic inspiration with his stupid fukin trivium which was/is an elitist 'learning' and used BY them as mind control. So in typical patriarchal mode he worships Logos over Mythos
Yes I am aware that psychedelics can create apathy also, but that is more infiltration of ideas rather than the psychedelics themselves, and that mind control can happen with and without psychedelics or other drugs--though I don't class psychedelics as 'drugs'

OK now I can run with this.  I think this is exactly what TM was up to and it worked pretty well and that's his great achievement if any. That he lived a life that he envisioned to some extent.  He had some very wise things to say but the fact is imo that most of the folk to glom onto him are like Dead Heads.  Lame music but good times.

Through Terence mckenna I found the work.of Carl Jung, alfred north whitehead, marshal mckluhan, and James Joyce ....amoung others

Most of what mckenna did was expand upon these peoples ideas any way...

He was a smart guy, an intellectual, even a grumpy nerd, but he was NOT delusional or crazy, if he was a fed this for sure proves he was not nuts...

He once spoke about seeing old agents wandering through the UFO crowds, guys close to retirement meant to be a government eye on the freaks...how funny it would have been if he was doing the same thing!

In the alchemical dream terence portrayed himself as "John dee", even dresding as dee and walking through prague in the film!
Mr. Dee used astronomy and alchemy as a front to gain access into the courts of foriegn kingdoms, he then sent the information in code back to queen elizebeth, its said Dee did not believe a word of the stuff he used to gain entry into these courts of other rulers.
...how funny it would have been if just like John dee, Terence mckenna was a secret agent!

But this is all wild speculation.

Regardless the situation with mckenna is far more complex than it seems on the surface.

Wrong:nono:  Way fucking wrong.

I agree with the rest more or less.  I think a lot or at least one unmentionable naysayer on these boards has an envy problem.  He just wishes like hell he could have pulled something like that off.

So you think mckenna was crazy?

I'm not saying he was a fed, I was saying he took all his ideas with a grain of salt, and if he was a fed it proves that he really did not believe a word of it.

I'm on a kindle fire and cant get any of your links to work zzripz, id love to join in a debate, but its very hard when I cant see the links being discussed.

(Yeah, mckenna has a large hippie following, but ive also met psychology buffs, physics nerds, mathematicians, chemists, etc...really straight academic guys who still love mckenna, I doubt they take him seriously, but they love to hear him speak.)

YOu are making assumptions about TM that I don't believe you have substantiation for.  How much of what he spouted did he believe?  Can you provide evidence you know?

And yes TM was crazy but could easily be less or more so than you or me.

Ive listened to most of mckennas recorded lectures and I have read his books,  and I don't see him as delusional or crazy in any manor.

Mckenna was a skeptic, Terence McKenna encouraged skepticism, even when it came to his own ideas.

He may have been a con-man, but he was in no way crazy.

Regardless mckenna did great things in the real world, and psychedelic users should be thanking him even if they dont like him. Aside from all his psychedelic work mckenna introduced me to marshal mckluhan, alfred north whitehead, Carl g. Jung, James Joyce, john dee, Johannes Trithemius,  W. B. Yeats, Francis Yates,  and even Ralph Abraham and Rupert sheldrake (who if you listen to the trialogue lectures, called mckenna on his shit all the time). I found mckenna when I was young but  through him i was introduced to so many other amazing thinkers.

I'm a huge mckenna fan, but its not like I buy into everything he ever said, and, yes, most his ideas were crazy, they were meant to be, if his ideas were on par with the rest of the world nobody would have ever listened to him. I don't think mckenna was crazy or deliusional and he was obviously no fool.

Can you watch youtube videos?

If so, type the title you see on it (or ask me for it if you can't) at youtube and you should be able to see it there. Though not sure about these kindle things. aint got one

Thanks zzripz,
I can watch youtube vids, but in your post it just shows a box with a logo on it (every time someone posts a youtube link in shroomery this happens, partly because I'm on an old kindle tablet), so it doesn't give me the name or URL of the youtube videos.

I don't mean to be an inconvenience, I did want to see that video though, what should I type into the youtube search bar to find it?

Thanks again,

Ive never heard of this irvin person, so ill have to look into all that, ive researched MKULTRA (the MKULTRA facts, not theorys), and ive looked into the governments manipulation of controlled substances, but there's a lot of nonsense out there when it comes to these topics.

I cant believe there are still idiots going on about that whole 'bad trip' lie about Mckenna, that is just thoroughly discredited hearsay, terence's entire family (including Kat Harrison) disowned Dennis for making up those ridiculous lies about him.

And Jan Irvin is just a deadbeat conspiracy theorist, only a complete moron would take him seriously, for example check out his batshit theory that Terence Mckenna was a member of the CIA/FBI - http://www.gnosticmedia.com/McKenna-Agent

well I don't dig being called an idiot. Now if you can keep this conversation civil let me ask you: why do you think--even if it is true (and I can contact Dennis via email, so take care with your response)--that Dennis would lie about this?

If you still believe the story about Mckenna's alleged bad trip and extended shroom abstinence despite everything that has transpired since the claim was originally made, you're an idiot (sorry to be so blunt, but you are).

The story has been thoroughly discredited by multiple sources who were much closer to Terence than Dennis was. Even Dennis himself doesnt still stick to the original version of the lie, that Mckenna never took mushrooms after a bad trip in 1989.

Dennis probably made up the lie about Mckenna to sell copies of his boring and pointless book, and it worked, many people were sorely disappointed when they purchased the book and found no mention of any bad trip, or any disingenuous mushroom abstinence. The lie on the podcast was immediately retracted, and Dennis was subsequently disowned by his own family because of it and is now just a bitter failed loner.

It must be difficult for Dennis to have lived his entire life in the shadow of his famous brother, but that really is no excuse for this dishonest, slanderous opportunism, preying on the naive credulity of the so-called "psychedelic community".

Either way, the lie has been thoroughly, conclusively disproven by multiple sources, so to continue to cling to it even now likely indicates a lack of intelligence and critical thinking, hence the term "idiot"

and this should get you a ban. I don't agree with that, because I don't like moderation from 'above' at all and given an equal ground I would now call you a silly c---. If that was the level you wanted this, I am not shy. I just like justice for ALL. I have been banned without warning for less! More than once.
However, I will for now put all that aside and try and take your disrespect for some strange passion you have to defend Mckenna from any criticism

Instead of just coming here calling people with a different view from yours idiots, why not provide a LINK which shows evidence Dennis retracted what he said about Terrence stopping his magic mushroom use

ya know sometimes kiddo people may be missing info? And ALL you have to do is respectfully PROVIDE it and not insult them, and then YOU will receive respect back. That is intelligent conversation

Dennis never made the claim in the first place, the only place the lie ever appeared was on a podcast with Lorenzo Hagerty and Bruce Damer that was immediately retracted after it was released. That podcast did not feature Dennis, it was retraceted because of the reaction from Terence's family to the baseless, dishonest slander against Terence.

In the original podcast, it was not Dennis who made the claim, rather it was Dennis (dishonestly) paraphrasing something that Kat Harrison had allegedly told him
