Im not a Pittbull owner that lives in East LA, dude. Jesus fuck.

I guess i could have said “ya i was gonna tackle him, pin him, then rip his esophagus out with my teeth!!!!”

But i was really just going to wait until he lunged and then stab him in the gut as hard as i could. Which is a pretty valid tactic, The reason why people like pitbulls as fighting dogs (and hunting dogs) they are tenacious as fuck, you aren’t stopping that thing unless you mortally wound it.

People use Pits to hunt Wild Boars if you didn’t know

Its pretty gnarly shit honestly.

The dogs chase the boar down until he’s tired, fight him until he’s really tired, then latch on to him and the hunter walks up with a javelin and stabs the pig down the spine (or shoots it but thats dangerous for your dogs)

Boars have massive, razor sharp, tusks and its not uncommon for the dogs to get seriously injured/killed in the process. Those dogs don't even have protective jackets or collars so the owner clearly gives no shits about their well being.

Personally i dont believe in hunting with dogs (fowls and ducks excluded) That shit is cheating imo and way too gruesome for my tastes.
Bear/Cougar hunting are the stupidest.

Meh, people have been domesticating and breeding dogs to do all sorts of gnarly shit - usually some kind of hunting.

^
those guys hunt bears for the Russians

These guys were bred to hunt lions in Africa.

Plus all the other dogs trained for defense and hunting, too many to list.

Yeah it's true that some breeds are less patient and require owners that know what they're doing while they're being trained, at least, the average pitbull is not one of them - which I realize sounds bold. But the breed recently scored higher than all others in the ATTS temperment test, including golden retrievers.

http://einhorninsurance.com/california-insurance/pit-bulls-pass-atts-temperament-test/

Yeah, it's totally possible that assholes who are breeding pits for fighting are doing terrible things by breeding their best fighters, but that sort of irresponsible shit is confined to small circles of pathetic assholes. I think that this includes people who get a pitbull because they think it makes them look tough or some shit, which is kind of what it sounds like is going on in your area. It's safe to say that people like that are most likely terrible dog owners and these dogs end up aggressive and badly behaved as a result.

I think that breeds that are harder to train are probably cane corsos, the bear hunting dogs pictured above(so I've heard), most mastiffs and huskies/malamutes because it's a bit more difficult to train them. Every pitbull I've come across is super trainable, and tries really hard to please people, there's a ton of pitbulls around here(as I said, shelters are flooded) and I come across them a lot, through friends, at dog parks, on the street, never came across one that was overly aggressive at all.

I really want to get another dog. My Jack is getting so old. Ive had her so long that when she finally does pass it will kill me. Good thing about little dogs is they live forever. She’s 13 and she still moves pretty well, Im hoping she’ll make it a few more years.

My buddy just got a boxer and i have forgotten how much fun puppies are. Even with all the accidents and other bullshit they go through when they are young its pretty fun to raise em.

This is totally what goes on in my area. I dont think dog fighting is really a thing locally, but so many people have Pitts here and they raise them to be super aggressive.

I dont know dogs are like children.
Raise em properly and they will be great. Neglect and Abuse them and there are going to be major problems down the road.

I wouldn’t say poverty. Its all young renters though.
No violent or property crime, just drug.

Its weird. Just like every fucking Brodude with a dog has a pitbull.
I think its because the shelters here gets dogs shipped in from the in from CA, and yes that would definitely fit in your theory.

My Jack is a purebred i got as a kid. I think I’m going to look for a Shepherd puppy in the local shelters though. I dont have enough money that i can spend a few grand on a fucking Uber master race dog

I agree - breeding definitely has a big part of a dog's demeanor, but it's the owner that makes or breaks it in most cases.
I think that there are probably some hyper-aggressive pitbulls out there due to dogfighters breeding totally irresponsibly and often owners that suck - there's so many pitbulls out there because of those people that there often the most common type of dog(including the pittbull mixes) in shelters in many areas, and unfortunately I feel like because of that a disproportionate amount end up in less than satisfactory homes compared to say...a great dane, or an english mastiff, or any breed that you are unlikely to find in high numbers at a shelter.

Boxers are another one of my favorites. They're high on my list in terms of next dog material, they've got so many quirks and weird things that I find adorable, and they're so loyal and charismatic.

I think that the breed needs help and that there are a lot of people breeding animals that should not be passing down their genes and often contributing to the amount of dogs that end up without a home, Osculateofdemise, you're clearly more knowledgeable about the breed than I am and probably most people here, but it looks like you care about your dogs and are responsible about breeding and probably have a much different perspective than most people who view pitbulls as killers or rescues and nothing else. I have friends who have some really well bred pitbulls that are such nice animals in every way and I think that people who automatically dismiss the breed as a whole don't see that side of it.

My baby girl from probably 11 or 12 years ago.

Still loves to play and run around and get into scraps with the new dogs next door at 14. She can't hear me yelling from the house to come inside and has cataracts forming.  Its funny when I catch her doing something she shouldn't be.  She gets all startled and embarrassed when she doesn't hear me till I'm five feet away as shes sneaking over to the neighbors yard to take a dump.

I had a dog named jello that lived to 26. He was blind more than half his life but never stopped taking several mile walks around the neighborhood or fetching his newspaper toy. His nose and ears were so good he caught his toy in mid air like 20 percent of the time. Just wanted to share that. I haven't thought about jello in a couple years.

Only dog I have ever been bit by was a chow. Oh wait, when I was an ignorant kid(maybe a 6yo) I stuck my face right up to a lab and it nipped me. This chow though, I was drinking with my friend and I misunderstood him. He meant when the dog wasn't looking to pet him, like sneak a back rub in there. I reached right for his face, luckily I was fast enough to pull my hand back and he barely caught my finger, just a drop of blood.
Later on that same dog bit his kid so he preceded to kick the shit out of that dog. I heard it was much more docile after that.

Probably my least favorite breed.

The chows I've met have usually been weird, but there's one I deal with right now that has no idea he's a chow. He's really cool, but definitely needs training.

I'd want a male dog (or cat) too. I feel like men usually have a stronger bond with female dogs and females with male dogs. I don't have any proof to back my claim up.

Odd. One of only two breeds I've ever had act aggressively towards me. When I was 5 or so my neighbors 3 chows got through a hole in the fence into our backyard and chased me down. I barely made it in the back door.

One of my favorite dogs was half chow and half doberman. Sweetest dog I ever had, not a shred of aggressive behavior.

The only times I've gotten really seriously bit by dogs was breaking up a dog fight between 2 Australian Shepherds. Of course they didn't bite me on purpose, they were just so caught up in what they were doing when I got in the middle I got caught in the crossfire. That's why they say to let dogs keep fighting but I just can't do that. That mark on the back of my hand is never going away either - it's cool though because it matches a mark on the other hand where a surfboard fin went through it.

My neighbors had these 2 doberman pinschers who run loose so I'm used to kicking them away when I'd rike my bike. They've nipped me before but I can tell it's all an act. They're just being territorial.

I think dogs pick up vibes of people. I hate to say it but if you're an asshole I think dogs pick up on that and are more likely to attack you.

Pretty sure he's a scrawny little thing. He lucked out when that guy came driving on the sidewalk, and he had the nerve to talk shit to the guy for saving his life.

and talking about getting a dog to fight it with other dogs? really? fuck that guy...

Fuck off.
Im not trying to fight dogs. Thats what scummy pitbull owners do.

If a dog is trying to attack me hell yes I’m going to kill it. Especially when its in a neighborhood loaded with little kids who like to play in their front yards. What the fuck am i supposed to do let it attack me, or some toddler?

By the way i dont know how much of a pansy you are but a 60-70 pound rampaging dog that is 2 feet off the ground isn’t doing any damage to me. It will kill the fuck out of a 2 year old however.

Agreed with you totally, and thats my point.

A savage animal needs to be put down. If the cops came they would have no doubt shot it, and ticketed the owners.

If a dog attacks you you're going to kill it eh? What a fucking pansy boy. I don't care if it's a mastiff. An akita. Police trained shepard. If you can't 'disarm' a dog without killing it, you're a little bitch.
