Pot size question.
    #21263412 - 02/12/15 11:19 AM (9 years, 3 months ago)

Just wondering if any growers on here can let me know if this pot is too small for this San Pedro? Should I go buy a bigger pot? I'm kind of a newbie when it comes to these type of things.

I've had this baby since July 2014 and about a month ago I noticed what are more columns/arms whatever you want to call it. They keep getting bigger. Should I repot this in something much bigger or would that be a bad idea?

You can get away with keeping it in a 1gal until its around 4' but you will stunt its growth. If i was you i would pot it in as big a pot as you can manage. 3-7gal containers would be perfect.

Read up on transplanting and you will be fine. Be very careful to support the new arms and roots as you gently remove it, then repot it in your already prepped container and wait at least a week to water it so the roots can recover from shock. If you water too soon it can lead to rot. Sulfur dust is a great preventative measure for root rot on a weakened transplant.

If you are having trouble with getting poked use leather gloves, a long sleeve coat, and towels to cushion your hands and arms. Luckily pachanois have really short spines.

yeah, it would benefit from a larger pot (and a larger base could also provide more stability to the plant)

How would this plant do in a 7 gallon pot vs. directly in the ground.  One guy said about cannabis that they do better in the ground even if they have room in a pot, I'm wondering if this advice translates to cacti too.

Everything does better in the ground due to symbiotic relationships (mycorrhizae fungi, bacteria, mold), an abundance of room to grow, insulation, and typically more lumens. If you have good growing conditions the ground will always be superior. Pots are simply used for convenience, mobility, and space.
