Chicken Sh*t
    #21263172 - 02/12/15 10:18 AM (9 years, 3 months ago)

Anyone experienced with chicken-care?

I am working watching a farmhouse.  This morning the coop door was wide open and there were noticeably less birds inside.  Glad I noticed before letting the dogs out, anyway.

Once locating them outside I saw that the 5 hens were remaining at rooster's side. First I attempted to draw them back with food, Hensel and Gretel style.  This worked for two of them.  The remaining including the rooster I played sheepdog and shooed them back to the coop and was able after some effort to secure them as well.

However, one is still MIA and no where to be found.

I know they have lost them to predators in the past but I am not seeing any evidence of 'foul play'.  And yes, I already checked the road.

Anyone with know-how have any advice?

Breed another chicken.

It was hilarious as soon as the one hen got back in she rushed to the nesting box and laid an egg

If it isn't dead it'll probably show back up, a lot of people that have chickens just let them run around their property and they rarely stray too far from home.
