Yes, it would make sense to graft two seedlings in hopes of making at least one of them stick and not waste a good stock (that looks like it's Ferocactus glaucescens and it's not as easy to grow as, say, blue myrtle).
My own split tubercle graft has yet to do anything but swell at one end, so I really can't help you there. But from what I see on the net, it should bear some remains of it so, once again, I believe your guessing is right. Stop selling yourself cheap.

Sorry Zeddy, i have seen and scrutinized so many pictures on the net and i want to be right so bad. Only to have more seed. I have 12 seedlings, 2 peresskiopsis grafts, growing awesome i'll say and this big guy grafted to ferocactus. As a person with hoarder mentality 1 of anything is never enough.

I have a number of seedlings coming along as well, don't let them dry for too long!
(and, boy, do I understand your plant related hoarder compulsion... )

Its weird how they tend not to act like regular cacti. And yes, i dont let 3 days go by before i water them. Coco coir and perlite for soil but it tends to dry out in this windy heat.

I think this is why my adult caput-medusae died last winter. Like all my other cacti I let her go dry and rest for 3 months. Big mistake - should have kept watering.

I have a question, was she grafted?

I see. Ive let my oldest babies go weeks without water and the shrivel pretty bad but they grow great with frequent waterings. Your mistakes are my advice.

I found this little Astrophytum sprout - with four ribs. A hybrid - with one of the parents being my var. quadricostata. I presume.

Thats a lovely little guy. I have one quadricostata that is of the onzuka variety. Though it looks like its growing a nose.

It has inspired me to sow about 20 seeds I found on my quadricostata adult.

I'm guessing this pod came from your caput-medusa Ario right?
I wish you the best of luck growing them out and when you get a little army of them in flower I would love to get my hands on a few seeds to work with myself.
I think this plant is still new enough that the seeds are super expensive so I would imagine you could make some nice cash off of a few of those pods
^^^ Was looking for a cash character or gif but couldn't find exactly what I was looking for so this is what you get for now

How do the seedlings look for this plant? I figure they'll start off similar to regular Astro seedlings but with a little bit of time I think they'd stretch and look VERY different from regular Astro seedlings but I'm not 100% sure
You got any pics and any info on how old the seedlings are?

You know i havent snapped them in a while. Tomorrow ill take a pic. They are small. From what i have read, they grow a large tuberous root first and aftwr a couple of years they grow upwards.
