I have my plants neatly aligned, courtesy of the square pots. When I tried to pull this one out of rank to photograph it, it was very reluctant and I couldn't see why until I pulled it strongly. Some of my plants really dislike being kept in the same pot for too long, I've had some of the tuberous root species send scout roots out the drainage hole and into neighbouring pots to mine for water and nutes! It's getting scary to enter the greenhouse, I'm afraid they will lay some trap for me.

It got its head decapitated twice already. Thought it would just be a stump by now. But as most cacti often do have surprised me yet again.

So i got a question for Zed.
Why did all my flower buds stall, fall off and 2 new tubercules grow with buds but no development.

I am super curious as to why they just stall and fall off. Mind you its the first season i had it so that could be the reason.

Beats me. That plant is weird at best, have you moved it around? Sudden spell of dull, cool or exceptionally hot weather? May be any of them or something else altogether. One of my own grafts threw a tubercle half the size of the previous one with a flower, while the other dropped all tubercles and is slowly pushing a new one.
One thing I can tell you, that's a plant that will seriously drain the stock if you are careless. Keep it well watered, ferrel, especially in your stony mix!
(BTW, that's a very nice specimen there!)
I tried grafting the fallen tubercles of one of my plants and, to my surprise, they took in all forms I tried. The most promising, a split tubercle graft, has been slowly bulging but so far nothing more. Here it is at 1 and 12 weeks old:

Thats what it is. It has been exceptionally hot outside. We are heading to the dog days of summer but it already feels like that.
Ill water them all tonight.

I doubt it. Those buds are weeks old and havent grown at all. They get to that size and stall.
