I have just finished a grow and for the first time I had some contams, I want to resuse those jars, what should I do to clean them before starting another batch?

soak in bleach for a couple hours, no more than 6, if using a pc then a bleach rinse should be fine.

When I reused my jars all I did was thoroughly wash them out with anti-bacterial soap and hot water. Thirteen one-pint jars with zero contamination so far.

probably for used jars, but if you're dealing with contam jars it's worth your while to get bleach, it's dirt cheap. You can try to shortcut, but why?

I soak in bleach water for about 5 minutes and then put the jars in a pot of boiling water for about 10 minutes, both to kill any remaining contams and to rinse of any residual bleach. I then dry them upside down on a sterile paper towel and lightly mist them with rubbing alcohol before filling with substrate (under sterile conditions, of course). I have very few contam problems.

my dishwasher owns EVERYTHING. Pop all my jars (put the lids on the rack) in for a cycle and they are sparkling clean, ready to be used again.

Well I soaked my jars for an hour in bleach and then the dishwasher for a cycle, maybe overdid it. At least I know now that any contams came from faulty methods...

Yeah, once I used pure bleach to clean out a container, my house smelled like bleach for the next week.

it all depends on many variables, aeseptic technique, cleanliness of house, effectiveness of dishwasher. whatever works, great. IMO a extra precaution against contam is never a waste.

all of the ones in the front actually look like they've got some bacillus problems.... that mycelium looks like it's really backed up and thick, like it gets when there's bacillus in there. maybe it's just the lighting or the photo or something though.
