Is this cutting ready to pot?
    #21257997 - 02/11/15 10:59 AM (9 years, 3 months ago)

Hi guys, just a quick one.
Is this cutting ready to pot?

Got a couple of cacti from the garden centre today for root stock and this little fragment was in one of the pots. No idea how long ago it was broken off!

Many thanks.

I don't know how to make it more ready to pot, you should probably dip it in some root growth harmone from the supply store and put it in your soil probably on a heated germination tray. Root growth harmone and heated trays for germination are two non-cactus grower tips that help other plants. Do some research, the cutting isn't going to ever be more ready than it is now. Just plant her up and hope for some growth!

I heard that root growth hormone wasn't particularly essential with cacti, could be wrong though! No what I was actually referring to was the level of callousness at the cutting site. I understand that it is best to leave a cutting for a week or two to scab over and plant after that. What I'm after is advice from someone with experience as to whether this cutting has hardened sufficiently as I have no idea how long ago it was cut and don't know what a properly calloused cutting looks like, haha.
Cheers for the tip on heating from underneath, hadn't thought of that!
