I've used some of that before. Seemed decent enough. The best shit I ever found was for, I assume hermit crab bedding, and it was in discs, but was some of the highest quality coir I've laid eyes on once expanded. 100% even consistency.

I'll look into it.
These bricks take more water though. Hermit crab bedding aye?

It was on clearance at petco and I've never seen it again since. Hermit crab bedding is the only thing I can find that comes in disc so it was just an inference. I don't know for sure what the exact stuff I got was for.
May as well stick with what you've got if it works, since I'm the one looking to switch right now.

Eco earth does have bags of loose coir. 8 qts. But it's about the price of 3 bricks. It looks a lot cleaner though.
I noticed the bricks i have now are darker, look dryer and the bricks have cracks running down the side. It's like a dark brown. the bricks that i've had before that were clean were a lighter kinda more redish brown.
They probably buy dump truck loads from each farm they deal with. So depending on the supply at hand it's of different quality. I would trust hydro grade since those companies generally wash their product and goes through machines i would assume.

Around here, at least (and I would assume it's corporate policy), Petsmart carries ExoTerra, pet supermarket carries Eco earth

There's only petsmart where i live that i know of and they have eco-earth. Could just be back stock. I was told they were doing away with top fin products and they had a big sale on all of it... that was year ago and they're still selling it. Who knows.
Lol@ coir press.

Sanitize the fuck out of your eco earth, mix your tubs quick and use frosting. 9 times outta 10 you'll be fine. I go through about 6 bricks of Eco every two weeks and have only tamed out twice. (Trich)

But why take extra steps or risk? Hydro store bricks are bigger cheaper and cleaner. Exo terra is as clean as a hydro store grade brick and costs the same as eco earth. I don't understand why people would not be willing to pay less or the same for a better product

Eco is the only coir I can get around here unless it's online. If you can get better for cheaper, you would be a dumb ass for not taking that route

Just found sunflower seed in an Eco Earth brick...
Only reason I bought it was because my ExoTerra is in the mail and locally it's 2x the price as Eco Earth.

Eco earth is all we get around here. I'm not even sure what a hydro shop is but I know we don't have one.

A hydro shop, is a place that sells hydroponic equipment, mostly for indoor tomatoe growers

I use Eco Earth and I'm not sure it's ever been the vector of any contams for me. I've done 100's of tubs with it I haven't really found too much garbage in it but yesterday I did find a corn kernel.
I'm going to have to look into where a hydro store is around here though.

Well outta the last dozen tubs I have run, a total of 3 triched out before first flush. All 3 were done with 3 eco earth bricks. The others were fine. All spawn was inoculated with the same LC. The eco earth bricks were prepped the same way as the exoterra and the hydro shop coir. Not sure where else to look for a vector
I still have some eco earth but for safeties sake I am going to use it exclusively in bottles. I actually did some inquiring about eco earth at one of the pet stores I frequent and was informed that they had received so many complaints about the eco earth product (I assume from people using it for reptile husbandry purposes) that they were no longer going to carry it. Maybe these developments are recent and it might be something that will be rectified soon. I certainly can't see there level of product being good for business.

You have to wonder how the hell could a corn kernel get in there
I mainly find the occasional rock.
