Emotionalism

Emotions are fine as they are part of the spectrum of human response to life.
Emotionalism, however, is quite different. Take the murder of a woman for example. How lovely the victim was, how much she contributed to her church and Big Sisters, her pending wedding or how many times she was stabbed has NOTHING to do with the guilt or innocence of the accused. In determining this, the jury must attempt to use logic.
In a crisis situation, emotionalism will most likely lead to paralysis or an irrational decision.
The War on Drugs is based almost entirely on emotionalism.
I just don't see where it has its place. That being said, many of you might be surprised to find out that I cry during love stories. Being logical does not mean being unfeeling.

Hey Man, You don't have to prove your points everytime. Sometimes people don't want to hear an argument. Sometimes they just want to talk with others that have the same view points. Just a suggestion, Not a commandment. later. Hope you don't think I am hounding you now. But, you started busting my balls and I just haven't found it in my heart to let it go.

Of course it doesn't!
However, I think that being extremely logical (fun, isn't it?) does impart a sort of logical-choice to emotion, or at least to negative emotion.

You don't have to prove your points everytime. So unsubstantiated and invalid arguments are best?
Sometimes people don't want to hear an argument. Sometimes they just want to talk with others that have the same view points. I was really hoping to hear others people's views...
Hope you don't think I am hounding you now. It is not a matter of my thinking, Horatio.
But, you started busting my balls and I just haven't found it in my heart to let it go. Letting go is the first step on the spiritual path. Master that before you start lecturing little brother.

> Emotions are fine as they are part of the spectrum of human response to life.
I have been told by others that I am emotionless. One guy (a diehard treky) told me that I was the closest thing to a living vulcan that he had ever seen. Obviously I have emotions... everybody does... but I see no reason to let them cloud my mind and behavior.

I used to train lifeguards (WSI and LIT certified) and you are correct, most people 'lock' in a crisis situation. Proper training, for most people, is enough to get past this block.

Well, that would require a lot of work changing perspective and trying to understand the other person's point of view and why it is that they think that way. Seeing eye to eye on something isn't some freak occurence. Peace.

FG, I just meant that swami and i are opposites. He believes in only what science and logic can prove, hence the test-tube and ruler phases i used. I believe in things that cannot be proven with science or logic. That is what I meant. Sorry for any misunderstandings due to my inadequate use of words.

From what I gather he only believes in science. Just an observation, but from the replies I got about the existence of anything not proven in a lab, I can only assume such. Yes, it is an assumption. He may believe in the supernatural but he won't let on here.

The supernatural, if it exists, is only nature that has yet to be explained; not nature that violates the laws of the universe.

It seems to be the usual opinion of "non-scientists" to think that "scientists" would go as far as to believe in anything at all, let alone something specific.
This is generally not the case. Science is not the business of belief...it's the language of question
