Sup yall. A few friends and I are going to be rolling from Ohio to White Sands National Monument in New Mexico this Spring. We'll be taking along our tents and hammocks (and , obviously) and staying at free sites each night because the stars are the only roof we need, we're poor, etc. The plan is to spend 2 or 3 nights at White Sands, then to drive to another especially beautiful place and spend a couple days there before heading home. We don't want to go too much farther though because of time constraints. Checking out California, Washington, Wyoming, Nevada would be great but we can't get enough time off for a trip of that length unfortunately. Somewhere up to around a 7 hour drive from White Sands would be doable though.
I'm about to start a googlequest for parks/forests and stuff in Utah, Arizona, and Colorado, but I would absolutely love some recommendations from you guys. It isn't a problem of finding an amazing place, it's a problem of choosing when the options around there are endless. Any especially great areas within that vicinity that you think we'd appreciate would be fantastic.
