Accupuncture?
    #2125051 - 11/20/03 12:31 PM (20 years, 4 months ago)

I'm nervous - in an hour I have to get into the car and drive off to my first accupunture appointment. To easily sum up my problem, I'm too young to be having the horrible back pains that I've been having and after some extremely painful epidurals, this is my last chance to get it fixed.

Anyone go? What does it feel like? I'm gonna make some soup.

You'll be fine. It doesn't hurt at all. In fact, it feels pretty good...

you can barely feel the needles. i dont know how much it actually helps though, it just feels kinda cool. maybe go to a chiropractor instead if your back hurts.

there's nothing wrong with them if you find a cool one. i have gone to one by my house several times, and it really does help. i'm not to sure about the whole accupuncture deal, i think it is mainly a placebo effect.

I went to a chiropractor several times a month for a year after my friend got us into a car accident when I was younger...It made me incredibly sore, sometimes for up to a week after my appointments and I dreaded going. The only good thing he did for me was relieve my pinched nerve...everything else was pretty much useless. Thank god I wasn't paying for it...

My mom used to do acupuncture. If the person you go to knows what they're doing, it's a piece of cake. With needles in it.

Try to get a chiropractor that doesn't crack your back. The one I go to every now and then puts very slight pressure on your spine, from the base, up to your neck. No cracking involved.

I'm always afraid the doctors that crack your back are going to have a bad day and cripple me.

well i just got back. im very happy with it. the guy is really awesome and couldn't get over how good of a patient i was. it was weird... a little painful when he put pressure on certain spots, i could feel the needles move around but then they just layed me there for like 15 min and i enjoyed it. my back got this weird warming sensation. i need to keep going and i mentioned if my tattoo would get in the way of treatments but he said no and he'd work around it. i think i finally found a good way to getting rid of my pain.

I had bad pack pain when i jumped from a 50 foot cliff into some lake. I fell down wrong and hurt my back so bad i could barely swim outta the water.

After about 1 week of intense back pain i went to the Chiropractor and he X-Rayed my back and showed me the x ray I had Twisted my Back and it was pressing down on a disc. I went to the Chiropractor about 5 times in 2 weeks after the last visit i still had bad back pain for a few days after, But it seemed like it went away after that. I still have minor back pain from it but it doesnt hurt like it used too.

I highly suggest you go to a Chiropractor for it. He should fix you up.Going to a Doctor is a last bet because all they wanna do is operate. So if Accupuncture doesnt work you should seriously go to a Chiropractor. I know what back pain feels like and it seriously is really painful i know how you feel...

I don't have any chronic pains really, occasionally my back and neck hurt, though I think it is more from weight lifting than anything (I'm not talking normal muscle soreness either.). But I have been interested in trying acupuncture for other ailments.

I sometimes get hit with bouts of fatigue that are debilitating. They will come on suddenly and last anywhere from 1-9 days then go away.

What kind of ailments does acupuncture supposedly treat? Can it help you have an overall feeling of wellbeing? What about other mental conditions? (ie. concentration, clarity of thought, etc.)

I've had it have a noticeable effect on relieving joint pain. I think it's most effective for pain relief, bringing down fevers, sore throats, and head aches. Although, it may have proactive beneficial aspects like stress relief, once the needles go in it is very relaxing.

ya the pain is actually enjoyable... for me atleast. but i'm a lil freaky.  and it's not pain - it's little stabs - but feels cool.

my mom wants me to go for it not only for my back but to quit smoking... apparently accupuncture can do anything.

Acupuncture can work wonders.. while it is primarily used to treat pain, and energy blockages, it can also help promote the healing of organs, as well as increasing overall well-being and inner health.

Acupressure has the same points, and can be applied to yourself, even as a beginner. Just take the thumb or finger and massage the point in a circular motion.. counter-clockwise for tonifying effect, clockwise for sedative.

There is an entire science to it, and it is basically stimulating chi cavities, that connect in lines called ?meridians?, that effect different organs. The whole principle is based on the elements, as each organ represents an element, the idea being to create harmony with the internal energy. It is basically stimulating the nervous system.

Points all over the body effect different areas of the body. The ear, hand, foot have points on them for every area of the body. You can massage different parts of your ear or hand, for example to help relieve just about every minor physical ailment.

While there is tons to it, and I have just briefly described it, it is as simple as massaging yourself.. and you can find great benefits.

Try a face and head massage for 5-10 minutes.. absolutely amazing!
