casing substrate layer thickness
    #2124974 - 11/20/03 01:53 PM (13 years, 20 days ago)

i picked up some 8x8x2' tupperware containers from the grocery store. with the jars i have colonized i'd be able to fill 3 of them with about a 1.5 inch layer of substrate and then a .5 inch casing layer over top. will this be ok or do i need to find some deeper containers? the thing is i'd like to have multiple casings since this is my first grow and i don't want to put all of my eggs in one basket so to speak.

TIA.

That should be fine.

should they be dark colored tupperware? as to prevent light from entering the bottom of the casing.

Yes, or you could just put some tinfoil on the inside of the container so no light can get in.

They will be okay, but your shrooms will be small...and even smaller when they're dried...but it will be fine.

I would say putting tinfoil on the inside of the container would be much easier than taping the entire outside.

Actually I like clear containers with foil on the outside. The reason is that for any reason I think there may be a contam I can take off the foil without messing with the casing itself to see if everything is ok down there.

it's okay, as in it will produce fruits. You just have to figure out what type of project you are interested in and what are your limitations.
