What is this noise coming from my truck? Lifter tick, rod knock?

It is the 6.8L V10 4x4 in a 2000 Excursion. I've had these with 1/4 million miles still running perfect. Mine has 119K.
In the morning (or after it has been sitting for a little bit) the noise is gone...After 5-8 minutes of idling or driving the noise makes an appearance! Was told this is because the oil is thicker and thins out after 5 minutes..?
It does speed up when I hit the accelerator. But the cars I've got with rod knocks never once in a million years went away on a cold start.
What do you guys suspect?

I've got a similar ticking noise on my car that seems to come and go and speeds up or slows down with the engine revs. I took it to the shop they couldn't find anything wrong, they said it's some kinda of valve that has something to do with the vacuum system or something along those lines.
Not much help I know but just thought I'd throw it out there.

Nothing appeals to me no one feels like me, I’m too busy being calm to disappear. I’m in no shape to be alone contrary to the shit that you might hear. You can't wake up, this is not a dream. Step 1: Make sure there isn't a racoon family living in your engine.
Step 2: If step 1 fails, go see a mechanic

I haven't a slightest clue, it's clearly not a rod knock, if I had to guess it'd be something to do with the vacuum system and valves, might be a valve making that noise.
I wouldn't worry about it, my car makes a whining noise in the transmission cooler valve that goes away once it's been idling for a minute or two.
Also, have you checked to see if anything's loose? Might be something slapping back and forth with the air compression...
I'm half assed car illiterate LOL

You will probably get better responses on one of the ford forums.

Crawled underneath with stethoscope and touched transmission, because you don't hear anything from top of motor. And it is clearly coming from trans. I think it could be a cracked flexplate, I can get the part at local junkyard for $30. It is $550 at a "professional shop" so probably only $250 with a back-yarder.
Just hoping this is what it actually is because a rod knock would be a worst case scenario...

That's true but it takes 72 hours to get 2 responses on those dead forums. Here - I get 5 or 6 responses within a couple hours.
