    #21245624 - 02/08/15 08:46 PM (9 years, 3 months ago)

Hey guys so I wanted to start growing edibles and I have no idea where to start. I want something pretty easy but time isn't a problem. Any advice on a good tek and species. Thanks for the help guys! :nyan:

Starting with Oysters would be best, also Lions mane and Reshi would be good.

Here's a good tek. There Isn't really many teks for edibles though you kind of just need to do a lot of searching for the many way's to grow.

how do oyster mushrooms taste? Could I use the pf tek? and spawn to bulk sub of straw. I think i've seen people grow oysters out of a laundry basket. How would I exactly keep that humid

Taste great. Yes to pf tek for growing, but would be better to use grain to spawn to straw. Laundry basket works. Mist it. Many variables.
Get some oyster myc on agar and then on grain. Hit me up when you get there and i can walk you through the rest.

I love the taste of oysters. They are a great way to get into bulk grows as azur said. Straw is a breeze to prepare.

RR's Straw Tek

RR has a movie that spells it out very simply. I recommend purchasing it. A worthwhile investment in my opinion.

You can also do King Oysters or Reshi in a monotub.

With very little effort and less than a couple weeks you could do better than me with these cased Blue Oysters on rye grain.

I just fruited them in a shotgun FC so they look a bit mutated. Still pretty to look at and if you can keep the temps cool around 50 F the blue pigment should show off quite nicely.

The oysters look pretty awesome. I'm gonna try to pull them off. Will oysters grow around 70-80 degrees F? That's about the average temp of my house.

They have a certain look to them that I suppose is interesting. I really like em fat and robust with that dark steele blue cap. They will colonize around 70-80 alright but for P. columbinus, especially if you want the blue colored caps. The colder the better.

If you don't have 40-50 degree weather outside, cold shock them in the fridge for a while. Probably at least until primordia is growing everywhere. To keep em blue..... the fridge might be the only option unless your local climate permits.

I have let my bags of colonized straw partially freeze and they seemed to just love it. Freezing P. columbinus is definitely not hurtful and mostly is helpful to hover in the 30 to 40 to 50 range so they keep more of their true blue color as the fruits develop.

What's the weather like over there for ya?
